Country music legends Marty Stuart and Connie Smith will climb aboard a 1965 Ford Econoline when they join the Philadelphia Christmas Parade as Grand Marshalls of Philadelphia, MS on Monday (7 December 2020).

The ride is a a fully restored, highly customized, cornflower blue-sparkle paisley 1965 Ford Econoline pickup with mag wheels. The vehicle is themed as a psychedelic surf wagon. Its paint scheme was taken from a 1968 Fender Telecaster guitar owned by Stuart.

The Econoline, as well as an accompanying jet black 1961 Cushman Truckster emblazoned with a Congress of Country Music logo, was delivered to Philadelphia a week prior to the parade, as gifts to Marty Stuart for his Congress of Country Music from beloved Congress supporters Dave and Boots Wright from Ocala, Florida.

Throughout 2020 Marty has been a hard at work on the construction of Marty Stuart’s Congress of Country Music. The final beam was placed on 28 October, 2020.

The $30 million project is expected to become a major music, education and performance facility for the city of Philadelphia in Mississippi accelerating tourism for the region. The United States has a number of major music driven cities such as Austin, Nashville, Memphis  and New Orleans.

Marty Stuart’s collection of over 20,000 country music artifacts, the largest private collection of its kind in the world, will be displayed at Marty Stuart’s Congress of Country Music.

Marty and Connie will cruise Downtown Philadelphia, MS at 6pm on 7 December 2020.

Chris Wilson’s 1994 live album ‘Live At The Continental’ will be reissued on vinyl in Chris’ favourite team colours, yellow and black, to represent the Richmond Football Club.

‘Live At The Continental’ was originally released in October 1994. Chris performed at the now long-gone Continental nightclub in Prahran, Melbourne. It became the subject of a film ‘Chris Wilson’s Live At The Continental 23 Years On’.

Chris performed with Shane O’Mara on guitar, and Australian jazz luminary Jex Saarelaht on piano.

In his liner notes Shane says, “You know, I can’t remember the night … I vaguely recall rehearsing at Jex’s house; grand piano squeezed into the corner, walking & talking through the songs as much as playing … it was pretty brief. But I do know that something remarkable, something big happened that night at the Continental. Three souls on stage, songs just under our skin, implicit direction to play unfettered…arrangements sketchy, no plan.

Chris was an incendiary performer & deep songwriter, more than just a revered bluesman. Rooms would be transformed by his performance from brutal to joy to laughter & hushed tears.

He didn’t tell us this was being recorded or perhaps we thought it was only ‘You Will Surely Love Again’ as there is a VHS of this floating around the internet, blurred jittery black & white footage, the only vision captured of the night, there seem to be no photos, thankfully … for the music is all one needs.

This immersive night captured time preserved, Chris’s extraordinary songs; the paean ‘Hymn’, the extraordinary ‘The Changeling’, ‘Face in the Mirror’ funny/brilliant, the contained beauty of ’You Will Surely Love Again’. Three musicians, one voice, one blues harp, a grand piano & Hammond organ, one night never to be repeated.

Chris inhabited the moment, the music, engendered true inspiration, extended the form, a free dive into extempore. All in, give it every- thing you got: that would have been the muttered maxim as we walked on the stage … then it seems something incredible ensued.”

The original nine track ‘Live At The Continental’ was expanded to 15 tracks in 2007. This new edition is a 17 track album and on vinyl for the very first time.

Sunday’s episode of The Sound will pay tribute to the late Max Merritt.

Icons Russell Morris, Marcia Hines will be joined by Didirri, Andy Bull and Mia Wray to celebrate the life of New Zealand born and ARIA Hall of Famer Max Merritt, who passed away on 24 September 2020.

Last week Robert Rigby’s Ambition released the first Max Merritt album in 40 years. Max had been working on ‘I Can Dream’ in the last years of his life. It was always planned for release now but sadly Max didn’t make it through to see the release.

“He never lost his sense of humour. He was still going down to the Pommy pub in The Valley in LA two months ago,” promoter Michael Chugg recalls.

Max Merritt had his first hit in Australia with ‘Hey, Western Union Man’ in 1969.

The big one was ‘Slipping Away’ in 1975. It reached no 2.

Melbourne’s Even have brewed up an album of cover title ‘Down The Shops’, a collection of songs from Australian rock’s Hoodoo Gurus and The Sunnyboys to global hits from The Kinks, Blondie and The Beatles.

Have a listen to their Masters Apprentices cover ‘Living In A Child’s Dream’.

The Blondie track “(I’m Always Touched By Your) Presence Dear’ was one of their early b-sides. The cheeky cover of The Meanies ‘The Reason Why’ was featured on a joint single with The Meanies. Wally Kempton (Meanie) is in both bands.

Entrepreneur Wally has released ‘Down The Shops’ through his own label. He also runs the booking company that fosters out the band to venues.

Even will perform a cut down version of their annual Christmas show at the Corner Hotel in Richmond on December 21 and 23. This year’s show will be limited and seated. (Apparently that ‘Vertical Consumption’ thing they talk about all the time in South Australia is also banned in Victoria despite it not having a legal sounding name here).

Even ‘Down The Shops’ will be released in January.

Down The Shops is now available to pre-order from  http://www.cheersquad.com.au/releases/down-the-shops/ orhttps://artistfirst.com.au/search?q=even

Vance Joy has popped out a cover of The Pogues Christmas classic ‘Fairy Tale of New York’.

The Pogues ‘Fairytale of New York’ was released in 1987. It was a no 1 song in Ireland and no 2 in the UK. It reached no 49 in Australia.

The Pogues recorded the song with Kirsty MacColl. The song came about after Elvis Costello bet Pgues singer Shane MacGowan couldn’t write a Christmas song.

The song became controversial with the lyrics ‘an old slut on junk” sun by MacGowan and the MacColl rebuttal featuring the words ‘Faggot” and “arse”. The BBC edited the words to avoid offense.

Vance Joy’s last album ‘Nation of Two’ was released in 2018. It reached no 1 in Australia, no 10 in the USA and no 32 UK.

His biggest hit was 2013’s ‘Riptide’ (no 6 Australia, no 10 UK and no 30 USA).

Loverboy’s debut album ‘Loverboy’ has turned 40 and will celebrate with a limited edition vinyl release.

Singer Mike Reno said in a statement, , “Boy did we get lucky in late 1979 to work with the best in the business, Bruce Fairbairn and Bob Rock….. oh and don’t forget Mike Frazer. This record still sounds great.” Echoing Reno, Guitarist Paul Dean confirms, “I remember playing the clubs around Vancouver in ’79-’80, and taking a survey of our fans so they could pick their favorites from the 20 or so songs we were performing. Here they are, in hi-def.”

‘Loverboy’ contained two hits, ‘Turn Me Loose’ (no 3 Australia, no 6 Canada and no 35 USA).

and ‘The Kid Is Hot Tonite’ (no 30, Canada).

Just as ‘Turn Me Loose’ had its biggest chart position from Australia so did the ‘Loverboy’ album. ‘Loverboy’ reached no 5 in Australia, 13 in the USA and 17 in homeland Canada.

Loverboy were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2009. Their most recent song ‘Gimme Back My Life’ was released in 2020.

Leo Sayer has poked his head in front of a camera to recite a poem to honour the roadies, the backbone of the live music industry.

‘Our Crew’ might be a Leo Sayer song. It is just words without music right now so that officially makes it a poem at this stage.

Leo says the road crew is “the support mechanism”. “They are all suffering,” he says in the video.

“2020 has been a tough year for the entire music industry, but the hardest hit sector has been the live concert and festival scene. Covid 19 has made it impossible for the big festivals and for even the smallest gigs to take place. This affects all musicians of course, but even more than us it’s putting our roadies, tech assistants and crews literally onto the breadline. They need to be self employed, non contracted, it’s the only way they can get to work all the gigs they need throughout the year so their families can survive, and thus they don’t qualify for Job Keeper or any kind of Government assistance. I’ve made this little poem for them and I hope you like it….”

In September 2020 Leo released his homage to Melbourne with ‘My City In Lockdown’.

Something for Kate’s first album in eight years ‘The Modern Medieval’ is number one on Australia’s vinyl chart this week.

The Something For Kate debut displaced last week’s number one ‘PWR/UP’ by AC/DC. It also outsold new vinyl releases from Taylor Swift and Nick Cave.

Paul Dempsey had two solo albums in the gap. “It just surprised us as much as anybody that it has taken eight years,” Paul Demspey tells Noise11.com. “We don’t feel like we’ve been quiet during that period. We actually played shows in every one of the past eight years. There was a 20th anniversary tour in there. There were some nationwide tours like A Day On the Green. We did a national club tour. We’ve been active but we’ve also been raising families. It can be tricky to get the three of us together in a rehearsal space to work on ideas. Its just life. Families and other stuff. We haven’t been inactive. It just took time to get the new stuff happening”.

‘The Modern Medieval’ would have been released mid-2020 but was delayed due to Covid. Something for Kate completed the album in November 2019, ahead of Covid lockdowns.

The first single ‘Situation Room’ was released in April 2020.

Black Sabbath will have a massive 4CD or 5LP edition of ‘Black Sabbath Vol. 4’ to be released in February.

The new edition comes 18 months ahead of the 50th anniversary of the album, released initially on 25 September 1972.

‘Black Sabbath Vol. 4’ was the first Black Sabbath album produced by the band. It was recorded in Los Angeles in 1972. The new edition has been remixed by Stephen Wilson.

As part of the new package a live concert from 1973 will also be included in the box set.

‘Black Sabbath Vol. 4’ features the track ‘Changes’, a song the band stopped performing years ago because Ozzy Osbourne could not reach the notes anymore.

The song ‘Supernaut’ on the album became the inspiration for the name of the Australian band ‘Supernaut’ later in the decade.

The Teskey Brothers have released two Christmas songs ‘Dreaming of a Christmas With You’ and ‘Highway Home For Christmas’.

In a statement the brothers said, “Our first Christmas tunes! These two songs are both inspired by the lockdown we all faced this year. The story speaks to the separation of lovers and family, in Victoria’s case divided by the great Murray River, holding onto hope for a reunion at Christmas. You’ve got a lonely soul at home who’s ‘Dreaming Of A Christmas With You’, while their loved one is hightailing it down the ‘Highway Home For Christmas’. After a slow year off the tools, it was so much fun to get back together and record these tracks live in the room.”

As an extra Christmas treat, the Teskey Brothers will also perform a special Christmas show from Hamer Hall Melbourne.

Marlon Williams has teamed up with Canada’s Kacy & Clayton for the album ‘Plastic Bouquet’. ‘Your Mind’s On The Way’ is the new single and video.

The video was made in New Zealand using only dogs instead of Kacy, Clayton and Marlon. Marlon said, “The canine face. What ponderings truly go on inside that furry skull we may never know, but we sure like to imagine we do. Remember Homeward Bound? Or the infinitely superior Milo and Otis? Well, in the noble tradition of awkwardly imputing complex human emotions into the actions of animals, we present to you: ‘Your Mind’s Walking Out.’”

Cousins Clayton Linthicum and Kacy Anderson are from Saskatchewan in Canada. New Zealander Marlon Williams is now based in Melbourne, Australia. He had a small part in the Bradley Cooper directed ‘A Star Is Born’ performing ‘Pretty Woman’.

‘Plastic Bouquet’ was produced by Kacy Lee Anderson and Marlon Williams on Saskatoon, Canada and Nashville, USA. The album is due 11 December 2020.

Former U.S. leader Barack Obama regrets not awarding Dolly Parton the Presidential Medal of Freedom during his time in office, because she “deserves” the prestigious honour for all her humanitarian work.

The country music legend has always been a big philanthropist, and the 9 to 5 hitmaker recently hit headlines after it was revealed her $1 million (£755,000) donation to help medical experts at Nashville’s private research school Vanderbilt University find a cure for Covid-19 had resulted in the development of the new vaccine recently unveiled by officials at U.S. pharmaceuticals firm Moderna.

And Obama was shocked to discover Dolly wasn’t already a recipient of the accolade when he was confronted about her omission during an appearance on America’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

In part two of his TV interview, Obama admitted: “That’s a mistake – I’m shocked. That was a screw up. I’m surprised. I think I assumed that she had already got one, and that was incorrect.”

He then joked about encouraging his former Vice President Joe Biden – the new President-elect – to right his wrong.

“She deserves one,” Obama said. “I’ll call Biden!”

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is one of the nation’s highest civilian awards, and is bestowed to those who have made “an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors”, according to officials.

Oprah Winfrey, Sidney Poitier, Muhammad Ali, and Tiger Woods are just some of the noted celebrities to have received the high honour over the last 15 years.

The Ivors Academy last night [1 December] revealed the winners of 14 Ivor Novello Awards as part of The Ivors Composer Awards 2020, celebrating exceptional new works by composers writing for classical, jazz and sound art.

The winners of these prestigious Ivor Novello Awards were revealed last night as part of a two-hour ceremony broadcast exclusively on BBC Radio 3, hosted by Kate Molleson and Tom Service.

Ivor Novello Awards were presented to eleven composers for categories covering classical, jazz and sound art compositions, in addition to three ‘Gift of The Academy’ Awards. All eleven category winners were commissioned by different venues or organisations, ranging from the Vortex Jazz Club to the BBC Proms. Six of the category winners are 30 and under, highlighting the vibrancy and talent of the UK’s composing scene. The Ivors Composer Awards were formerly known as the British Composer Awards, having rebranded in 2019, and are supported by PRS for Music.

Jonny Greenwood picked up his seventh award from the Academy for his ‘Large Orchestral’ work ‘Horror Vacui’ which was commissioned by the BBC Proms and premiered by Daniel Pioro, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Proms Youth Ensemble. Greenwood explains that “horror vacui is the fear of empty space, usually in paintings. For this music, I’ve focused on all the different ways there are to electronically create reverb and echoes and translated them into the complexities of a string orchestra.” The judges felt that the work was “engaging, endlessly fascinating and completely original in both concept and realisation.”

Written to mark the occasion of National Windrush Day, Renell Shaw’s ‘The Vision They Had’ picked up the award for ‘Jazz Composition for Small Ensemble’. Commissioned by the Vortex Jazz Club, Shaw’s work included words and audio recordings from his grandparents who are members of the Windrush Generation. Renell said “when I was writing ‘The Vision They Had’ the goal was simple – tell my grandparents’ story authentically and honestly. I didn’t want to just talk about Caribbean people whod come to England. I wanted to talk about the deeper stories. I wanted to talk about love and loss, triumph, adventure and success.” The judges commented that “this is a work for our time…personally and politically resonant with emotional dialogue, it is beautifully composed with historical audio sampling and interplay of music and spoken word.”

The ‘Sound Art’ category award went to Kathy Hinde for ‘Twittering Machines’, an audio-visual performance featuring bespoke vinyl, objects, live electronics, field recordings and video projections. Inspired by John Keat’s ‘Ode to a Nightingale’, the work is “a poetic reflection on the delicate state of bird populations, as suitable habitat becomes rare and climate change confuses the seasons.” The judges felt that the work was “acoustically engaging, compelling and innovative.” This is Kathy’s second award, having won the British Composer Award for Sonic Art in 2017.

Royal College of Music graduate Oliver Vibrans picked up the ‘Community and Participation’ award for ‘More Up’, a work he composed for The Able Orchestra which is an inclusive ensemble of young people, who performed the piece alongside instrumentalists from the BBC Philharmonic and Hallé and five professional sound and digital artists. In his programme notes, Oliver said “my hope is that this work can represent one of many new musical dialogues that expand our understanding of what music making can and should be.” The judges for this award called the piece “an outstanding example of musical integration that is very skilfully written for the forces and range of abilities involved.”

This year’s ‘Choral’ category was awarded to Richard Blackford for ‘Pietà’, a work commissioned by Bournemouth Symphony Chorus and St Albans Choral Society, premiered at Lighthouse, Poole last year. The work, which the judges cited to be “ambitious, dramatic, colourful and powerful whilst also being performable,” is a new setting of the Stabat Mater. In his programme notes, Blackford reflects on the difficulty of setting the Stabat Mater whilst noting that “it is the delicate balance of emotional extremes, of crisis and the hope of salvation, that I tried to reconcile during the composition.” A recording of the work is available on Nimbus Records.

The ’Chamber Orchestral’ Ivor Novello Award went to Robin Haigh for his work ‘Grin’, commissioned and premiered by Britten Sinfonia and Thomas Gould. The judges called the work “quirky, playful, bold and original…with a highly distinctive musical language and sound.” This is Haigh’s second award having won the British Composer Award for ‘Small Chamber’ in 2017. Haigh is one of the many composers under 30 who won this year.

The ‘Jazz Composition for Large Ensemble’ category went to Charlie Bates for ‘Crepuscule’, which had its UK premiere last year with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. With this composition Charlie aimed to capture “the feeling of facing oncoming darkness, whilst clinging to the light that remains.” The judges thought the piece was “arresting and captivating from the start, its dramatic developments are strong, clear and well applied throughout.”

Commissioned by 12 Ensemble, Oliver Leith’s ‘Honey Siren’ was awarded the ‘Large Chamber’ award. The three movement work was conceived whilst Leith was “thinking about sirens; the wailing kind, not the bird women singing on rocks…they make these beautiful, huge oblong sweeping glissandi between high and low, like a machine crying.” The judges cited that this piece is “extraordinarily moving” and “evocative, emotionally involving and profound.” A recording of the work is available on Sancho Panza Records. This is Oliver Leith’s second award, having won the British Composer Award for ‘Small Chamber’ in 2016.

This year’s ‘Small Chamber’ award went to Daniel Fardon for ‘Six Movements’, a string quartet commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Society and Wigmore Hall, which was premiered by the Bloomsbury Quartet. Each of the six movements explores a collection of contrasting characters, moods and expressions, which the judges felt resulted in “a finely crafted work with a wonderful arc across the whole piece and beautiful sounds and harmonies.”

Gareth Moorcraft’s ‘Diaries of the Early Worm’ was awarded the ‘Solo or Duo’ category award. The five-minute work was written for Tabea Debus’s ‘Ode to an Earworm’ concert series in 2019. This is Gareth’s second award, having won the British Composer Award Student Competition in 2012. Taking the theme of an earworm, Moorcraft explained in his programme notes that “snippets of troubadour melodies emerge from a series of short, repetitive, often obsessive musical ideas which mirror our tendency to repeat catchy melodies in our head.” The judges stated that the piece was “witty, full of character and imaginative in its referencing of familiar and historical materials.” A recording of the work is available on Delphian.

The last of the category awards – ‘Stage Works’ – was awarded to Philip Venables for his opera ‘Denis & Katya’. Commissioned by Opera Philadelphia, Music Theatre Wales and Opéra Orchestre National Montpellier, the opera’s six characters are all played by two singers, re-telling the story from different viewpoints. The judges commented that the work is “incredibly skilful in its musical craft with exquisitely heard electronics” and that, in their opinion, “it is moving opera forward.” This is Venables’s second award, having won the British Composer Award for Stage Works in 2017.

Peer recognition is at the centre of this unique annual celebration. Each of the eleven nominated categories had a separate judging panel of composers and music practitioners who anonymously reviewed all works entered for consideration. The identity (name, gender, age, demographic) of the work’s composer was removed from all materials given to the jury. All of the nominated works received a UK premiere between 1st April 2019 and 31st March 2020 and were composed by a UK born or ordinarily resident composer.

In addition to the eleven category awards, three composers were awarded ‘Gift of the Academy’ awards from The Ivors Academy. Cecilia McDowall, who celebrates her 70th birthday in 2021, was awarded an Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Works Collection, recognising her exceptional body of classical works. Of this award, McDowall commented “it is very humbling to have been singled out to follow in the footsteps of previous recipients when there are so many other deserving composers.” The Academy said that McDowall is “a highly skilful and captivating composer who communicates through her music with stunning beauty, sensitivity and impact.”

British-Bahraini trumpet player Yazz Ahmed is recognised for her approach to jazz composition with an Ivor Novello Award for Innovation. Yazz brings together the sounds of her mixed heritage through her music, explaining that “I hope that through my music I can bring people together, building bridges between cultures, and changing perceptions about women in jazz and people of Muslim heritage.” The Academy has recognised Ahmed for “her unique creative voice that smashes the boundaries between jazz and electronic sound design by drawing on her heritage to create intoxicating musical worlds.”

Genre-defying composer Julian Joseph OBE becomes an Academy Fellow, the Academy’s highest honour, in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to music in the UK. Julian is the 21st Academy Fellow, joining a prestigious list which includes Kate Bush CBE, Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. The Academy said, “We’re delighted to honour Julian for his incredible achievements in music as an educator and as a truly unique and exceptional voice in jazz and classical composition.”

The Ivors Composer Awards are sponsored by PRS for Music. Winners of Ivor Novello Awards at The Ivors Composer Awards were announced on Tuesday 1 December on BBC Radio 3 during an exclusive live broadcast hosted by Kate Molleson and Tom Service. Click here to listen back (available for 30 days).

Gloria Estefan has urged fans to continue taking the COVID-19 pandemic seriously after she was forced into quarantine following a mild case of the coronavirus.

Gloria has been encouraging followers to take note of health and safety advice from top officials ever since the start of the global health crisis, but despite taking precautions, Estefan tested positive in early November, shortly after dining outdoors at a Miami, Florida restaurant.

She suspects she contracted the virus after interacting with a maskless fan, who got a little too close for comfort.

“I was very lucky, but I just wanted to share with you that I was in quarantine,” Estefan explained in an Instagram video post.

“One day I went out and met with one person who was not wearing a mask. I even held my breath through their talk, but something must have happened there,” she shared, revealing she was diagnosed after losing her sense of taste and had to spend two weeks locked away in one part of her Miami home to avoid spreading the illness to others.

Estefan also experienced “a little bit of a cough” and dehydration, and said she is thankful to have pulled through largely unscathed, crediting her use of vitamins for keeping her immune system strong during the scary time.

“Fear was my biggest problem,” she admitted.

She went on: “We’ve got to grab fear and shake it and just do whatever you can to keep your immune system as healthy as you can.”

Estefan, who has since tested negative twice, concluded her message by acknowledging the recent surge of positive cases in Miami and begged viewers to do everything possible to help curb the spread of the coronavirus.

“I know we are kind of in a very big spike in Miami. It’s tough here now,” she noted. “Please everybody wear your masks, try to stay six feet away, and protect yourselves.”

Paloma Faith recently teamed up with jazz superstar Gregory Porter on their original festive duet, ‘Christmas Prayer’ and now she wants to make her own jazz record.

Paloma has revealed she is keen to return to her roots and do a full album of jazz songs.

Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column at the virtual Attitude Awards on Tuesday night (01.12.20) – where she won The Honorary Gay Award – Paloma said: “I would love to (do a jazz album).

“That’s where I started. I do feel like that’s sort of my calling a little bit. I would like to.”

The 39-year-old singer revealed she came to collaborate with Gregory, 49, after meeting at a jazz club where they got up on stage to dance together.

She recalled: “I met Gregory in a jazz club and we just got up on stage together.

“I feel a lot of people need an uplift.

“It felt appropriate to inject some hope in an otherwise unstable time.”

Gregory said of their song in a press release: “Working on this Christmas song together with Paloma has been fun, I hope the passion and sheer joy that we put into this record will bring a little magic to everyone this Christmas! In the spirit of giving, Paloma will join me on ‘The Hang’ (My podcast) on New Years Eve – so tune in to ring in a bright future for us all in 2021.”

The pair recently featured on the Children in Need charity cover of Oasis’ hit ‘Stop Crying Your Heart Out’, which also featured the likes of Cher, Kylie Minogue, Nile Rodgers, Lenny Kravitz and Robbie Williams.

Paloma released her fifth studio album, ‘Infinite Things’, last this month.

The collection deals with becoming a mother and her own relationship with long-term boyfriend Leyman Lahcine.
Paloma – who is currently pregnant with her second child – said: “My USP is the fact that I am brutally honest.

“Some people find it shocking and some people find it liberating. And I feel like this album will do both of those things.”

As for Gregory, the Grammy-winner’s last studio album was August’s ‘All Rise’.

Steve Earle’s singer/songwriter son, Justin Townes Earle, died of an accidental drug overdose, a medical examiner has concluded.

Earle, who had a long history of addiction, passed away in August, and now experts have confirmed drugs played a major role in his death.

“Next to alcohol and cocaine, the autopsy report revealed traces of fentanyl, indicating that that usage of fentanyl-laced cocaine resulted in an overdose,” a statement read on the deceased singer’s Instagram account.

“Even though Justin was very outspoken and concerned about the opioid epidemic and the dangers of the ‘legal’ drugs fed by the pharmaceutical companies, he became the victim of a deadly dose of fentanyl,” it went on.

Explaining: “Illicit drugs laced with fentanyl are causing an enormous rise in overdoses, turning cocaine usage into an even deadlier habit. It only takes a few salt-sized granules of fentanyl to cause an overdose,” the statement added: “in most cases, it happens so fast that intervention likely could not reverse it”.

“Addiction is a disease, and there are many avenues and treatments to become and stay free from alcohol and drug usage,” the statement ended.

It urged: “If you or a loved one are struggling with substance addiction, please know that you’re not alone and reach out for help. Don’t lose hope.”

Earle’s body was discovered in his Nashville, Tennessee apartment by local police responding to a welfare check requested by a friend of the singer on 23 August.

Victoria has another music festival in 2021 with the Gippsland Country Music Festival all set with Lee Kernaghan in April.

The Gippsland Country Music Festival is on 24 April 2021 at Berrys Creek Victoria.

Joining Lee are Brad Cox, Casey Barnes, Felicity Urquhart, Andrew Swift, The Davidson Brothers and more.

Gippsland Country Music Festival is organised by the crew at Red Hill Entertainment, including brothers Aidan and Rhett McLaren who grew up and live in Gippsland, and also put on the popular The Hills Are Alive and NYE on the Hill festivals. Growing up on a sixth-generation dairy and beef farm, they have long been surrounded by fans of country music. “Up until now there hasn’t really been a dedicated country music festival event in our region,” says Aidan. “We’re really excited to be bringing some of the nation’s most-loved acts to Gippsland for what hopefully becomes an annual pilgrimage for a lot of country-music loving people.”

Choosing the line-up for the 2021 event was a careful process. “When we first talked about launching the Gippsland Country Music Festival, we bounced around headliner ideas and Lee Kernaghan was straight away at the top of the list,” says Aidan. “He’s created so many amazing albums and songs over such a long period of time, and his live show is just so engaging. To have him playing the inaugural event is really something. Each of the other artists are incredible and we feel together they showcase the diversity and range of talent that exists in the Australian country music scene. As well as much loved legends and rising starts of the country scene, we’re also looking forward to the crowd being blown away by some of Gippsland’s home-grown talent in The Davidson Brothers and The Strzelecki Stringbusters.”

Bringing an event such as the Gippsland Country Music Festival to their home region is particularly special for Aidan and Rhett. “Growing up in regional Victoria, there weren’t many big events to attend and so ourselves, and most of our friends, would have to travel to the city for entertainment,” says Aidan. “To be able to have world-class events in regional areas is great for everyone who lives in the region in terms of having fun things to do, but they can also provide great economic boost to local businesses. I’m also a proud Gippslandian and love sharing this stunning region with people who may not have been here before. Music festivals are a great way to introduce people to new places and landscapes.”

“Gippsland Country Music Festival will operate as a COVID-safe event, and operate with the Victorian Government guidelines that are in place at that time,” says Aidan. “Operationally this will include a dedicated COVD-safe officer on-site, contact tracing processes, increased hand-sanitiser stations throughout the event, social distancing measures in place, regular sanitization and cleaning of event facilities, regular health reminder messaging and more. If, due to COVID-related restrictions, the event is unable to go ahead as planned, it will be rescheduled for another date later in the year and all tickets will remain valid. In such an event, people requiring a refund will be able to do so.”

Tickets for the inaugural Gippsland Country Music Festival go on sale via Moshtix at 9am Wednesday 9th December 2020.

Saturday 24th April 2021 | 11.30am

Mossvale Park, Mossvale Park Road, Berry’s Creek, VIC

Kelly Clarkson’s estranged husband Brandon Blackstock is reportedly requesting $436,000 (£320,700) a month in spousal and child support.

Clarkson shocked fans in June when she filed for divorce from Blackstock, with a Los Angeles judge agreeing earlier this week that Clarkson should serve as the primary guardian for the former couple’s daughter River, six, and four-year-old son Remington.

The exes will still share joint physical and legal custody, but the kids will be based with their mum in Los Angeles.

Now, further details have emerged about Clarkson and Blackstock’s arrangement, with People reporting the music manager is seeking $436,000 per month from his former wife.

“Brandon’s been equally unreasonable in his requests for child and spousal support, as well as attorney fees,” a source told the outlet. “Kelly’s offered to pay for all the kids’ expenses, but Brandon seems to think he is entitled to and needs $301,000 (£221,000) in spousal support and $135,000 (£99,000) in child support per month.”

If Blackstock’s request is to be granted, he could receive more than $5.2 million (£3.8 million) per year.

He’s also reportedly asked for “$2 million (£1.47 million) in attorney fees”, due to the fact he apparently has seven attorneys representing him alone.

Clarkson, who wed Blackstock in 2013, has yet to respond to his request.

Keith Richards’ Christmas song ‘Run Rudolph Run’ has a new Christmas video.

Keith releases the Chuck Berry penned Christmas song in 1978. Jimmy Cliff’s ‘The Harder They Come’ was the b-side.

It was the one and only solo Keith Richards song until ‘Take It So Hard’ came along 10 years later.

Keith recently reissued his 1991 live album ‘Live At The Hollywood Palladium, December 15, 1988’ as an expanded box set.

2020 also saw the release of an expanded Rolling Stones ‘Goats Head Soup’.

There was also a Stones live DVD from the Steel Wheels tour.

Stones fans were also treated to a brand new song during Covid ‘Living In A Ghost Town’.

R.I.P. Dan Morrison, the drummer for Melbourne punk/ska band Area-7, has died after an injury from a fall over the weekend.

Dan was a founding member of Area-7. The band formed in Melbourne as a Madness cover band in 1994. The first AREA-7 release was a cassette in 1994. ‘Demo Tape’ featured four songs. The debut album ‘No Logic’ came the following year.

In 2000 Area-7 earned an ARIA nomination for Best Rock Album for ‘Bitter & Twisted. It even had a hit single ‘Second Class Citizen’.

A statement from the band reads:

Family and friends, unfortunately our worst fears have been confirmed this afternoon.

Our drummer, friend and brother Dan Morrison passed away today following an accident over the weekend. He died with his family and close friends by his side.

We have no words to convey the grief we feel right now, and we are simply shattered.

Dan was a founding member of Area-7 and at the top of his game he was one of the best drummers in this country. Dan was supremely talented we remember Dave Grohl & Taylor Hawkins sitting on his drum riser and watching him play a whole show from start to finish, applauding his talent or Eric Sandin from NOFX calling him “a freak” after watching him play his unique style of offbeats. He was held in high regard by his fellow drummers across the ska scene and his loss is tragic.

For us he was backbone of our music. A cracking right arm that would split your ear drums with the swing and feel of feel of a big band player and a driving force that made you dance, all while grinning from ear to ear while spitting cheeky banter and one liners at the rest of us.

Everyone who knew Dan, loved Dan. They loved his big heart, his big grin and his loyalty to family and friends. Dan never did anything by half – if he liked something, he was devoted to it. He was devoted to ska, old, new any flavour would do, and he loved all that it stood for. He has always been a staunch advocate for racial equality and truly lived the “two tone” ethos calling out racists when he encountered them – putting his own safety at risk on many occasions and sometimes paying the price for it. He was also a vegetarian and truly cared for humans and animals alike.

Dan was also a lot of fun, loved music and was always out supporting other bands or his favourite football/AFL teams (ManU , Melbourne Victory, The Blues. He was always last to leave events and venues too, hanging around to ensure the party continued for as long as it possibly could.

More importantly Dan was our mate and our brother. The bonds between band members is strong, its family. We spent decades together rehearsing, writing, recording, travelling, clowning about and of course playing and touring. Together we experienced the highs and the lows and shared those moments on stage that only other band people can understand. Those nods and smiles when you are “cooking” and you know you are doing something that is a privilege and only a very small number of people get to experience.

We send love and our deepest sympathies to the Morrison Family to John, Adele, Emma Jarrod, Dinesh thanks for sharing your son and brother with us. Much love to Jodie, Lachie and Gav and all of his close friends

Like you, we feel despair and we are heart-broken…

Vale Dan, we love you brother…

RIP from the AREA-7 Familia Past & Present

Legendary producer Glyn Johns joined as the executive sound producer and the house band featured Mick Fleetwood along with Dave BronzeJonny LangAndy Fairweather LowRicky Peterson and Rick Vito.

The show happened just in time, just days before the first Covid case in the UK.

Peter Green was a founding member of Fleetwood Mac and the main songwriter in the day. His songs included ‘Black Magic Woman’ (a hit later for Santana), ‘Albatross’ and ‘Oh Well’.

Green had been a member of John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers but left in 1967 to start his own band. He took along fellow Bluesbreakers Mick Fleetwood and Jeremy Spencer and initially called the band Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac featuring Jeremy Spencer. Just months after forming this new band original bass player Bob Brunning left and was replaced by John McVie.

Green left Fleetwood Mac after his final performance with the band on 20 May 1970.

It was just a few years later when Peter Green was diagnosed with schizophrenia and underwent therapy. In 1979 he returned to music with a solo album, a guest appearance on Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Tusk’ and a contribution to Mick Fleetwood’s solo album ‘The Visitor’.

Green died on 25 July 2020.

While he’s been no stranger to the top of the Official Albums Chart in recent years with three solo Number 1 albums under his belt, Liam Gallagher now looks set to make an impression on this week’s Official Singles Chart too.

New charity single All You’re Dreaming Of could deliver the Oasis star his highest charting solo single to date on Friday – the week’s highest new entry at Number 12 after 48 hours, according to today’s Official Chart First Look, broadcast exclusively on BBC Radio 1 at 6pm. Liam’s current personal best on the singles front is 2017’s Wall Of Glass which peaked at Number 21. View Liam Gallagher’s solo chart history.

The Oasis star’s festive track, as performed on The Jonathan Ross Show, has been confirmed by the Official Charts Company as a contender for the Official Christmas Number 1 2020 crown. The UK’s most downloaded track of the week so far, All You’re Dreaming Of is available digitally now, plus a 12″ and limited edition white 7″ vinyl version are due for release on the day the Christmas Number 1 race 2020 kicks off (December 18). Proceeds are going to UK charity Action For Children.

Compiled by the Official Charts Company, the Official Christmas Number 1 race 2020 takes place 18-24 December, the winner will be revealed exclusively on BBC Radio 1 on Christmas Day afternoon, with the Official Singles Chart and Albums Chart Top 100 published on OfficialCharts.com. Follow @OfficialCharts on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for the latest race updates. Revisit every Christmas Number 1 winner, embed playlist.

Ariana Grande looks set to make it a sixth week at Number 1 with Positions, as Little Mix’s Sweet Melody climbs one place midweek to Number 2.

Miley Cyrus Midnight Sky could be looking at a new peak position of Number 3, first entering the chart some 15 weeks ago, it’s previous best was Number 5.

A flurry of festive favourites old and new make big leaps forward since Friday: Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas leads the charge, up 10 places at the beginning of the week to Number 4 and is one of four Christmas songs potentially breaking into the Top 10 when the final chart is announced on Friday. Wham!’s Last Christmas up 13 places midweek to Number 7, Justin Bieber’s new cover of Brenda Lee classic Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree zooms forward 40 places to Number 8, and Fairytale Of New York hovers just behind (10).

Just outside the Top 10 lie more Christmas tracks – up 49 places Jess Glynne’s This Christmas (14) , Shakin’ Stevens’ Merry Christmas Everyone (13), Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Christmas (17), Elton John’s Step Into Christmas (19) and Wizzard’s I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday (20).

Further down, Burton-born DJ Nathan Dawes & Little Mix’s new collaboration No Time For Tears starts its Official Chart journey at Number 32, the second highest new entry of the week so far.

The final Official Chart Top 40 will be unveiled exclusively on BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart with Scott Mills this Friday from 4pm, with the full Official Singles Chart Top 100 published on OfficialCharts.com from 5.45pm.

Australian Charts: AC/DC ‘PWR/UP’ Stays At No 1 http://www.noise11.com/news/australian-charts-ac-dc-pwr-up-stays-at-no-1-20201130 http://www.noise11.com/news/australian-charts-ac-dc-pwr-up-stays-at-no-1-20201130#comments Mon, 30 Nov 2020 01:00:31 +0000 http://www.noise11.com/?p=159451 For the first time since August a No.1 Album holds the top spot for a second week, as AC/DC's "Power Up" logs another week at the top of the ARIA Albums Chart.

For the first time since August a No.1 Album holds the top spot for a second week, as AC/DC’s “Power Up” logs another week at the top of the ARIA Albums Chart.

“Power Up” and its second stay at the summit becomes the equal longest running No.1 album for AC/DC, tying with their chart-topping album from this week in 1992, the double “Live” set which logged two weeks at the top on the 22nd and 29th of November, 1992. This extra week at the top gives the band an increase to eight overall weeks at the top in Australia, moving them up on the list of ‘Accumulated Weeks at No.1: Albums (1965-2020)’ from 92nd to now 84th, moving ahead of Ariana Grande (8 weeks from 4 #1’s). Their new album also debuted at No.1 in The U.S.A. and Canada this past week.

Of the 38 No.1 albums for 2020 so far, this is only the seventh album to log a second week at No.1, the others were by Harry Styles (Jan), BTS (March), Drake (May), Lady Gaga (June), “Music from the Home Front” (late June) and the last was for Taylor Swift who logged four consecutive weeks from the start of August with her Top-10-returning album this week, “folklore”.
What could have potentially been the new No.1 album this week, as it landed at the top in New Zealand, was the fifth studio album for BTS called “BE”, which comes in at No.2 this week, the first of four consecutive Top 10 entries. The Korean boy band did hit No.1 back in March with “Map of the Soul: 7” for two weeks, and overall this is their seventh Top 10 album placing in Australia (5 studios and 2 EP’s), while the album has two Top 30 charting singles this week in “Dynamite” (HP-2, TW-16) and “Life Goes On” (new at #27).

The next new entry at No.3 is the debut studio album for local songwriter, actor and musical writer Tim Minchin called “Apart Together”, and while he has written stage musicals like ‘Matilda’ and ‘Groundhog Day’ and issued six live albums since 2005, this is his first ever ARIA Albums Chart entry, plus he has managed one charting single in 2016’s “Come Home (Cardinal Pell)” (HP-11). The album has also landed in the Top 30 this week in both England and Scotland.

Returning to the charts for the first time in eight years is Melbourne band Something for Kate with their seventh studio album called “The Modern Medieval”, which the band started writing in 2017, finished in late 2019 and were due to release the material in mid-2020, but due to the pandemic, delayed its release until November instead. The album enters at No.4 this week becoming their sixth Top 10 album in Australia and first since “Leave Your Soul to Science” hit No.5 in early October of 2012.

The third successive Australian act as a new entry this week comes in at No.5, Nick Cave’s new live album “Idiot Prayer-Nick Cave Alone at Alexandra Palace”, which becomes his fifth issued live album, and also his thirteenth Top 10 placing in Australia. The live show was a one-off performance on July 23rd, 2020 after his European and American tours were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, thus he live streamed the show from London’s Alexandra Palace around the world, and now the live show has been issued as a DVD, Blu-Ray and CD for all of to enjoy.

A repackaged edition of the latest Taylor Swift album “folklore” helps the album to rebound fifteen places to land at No.6 this week, giving the album its 14th week within the Top 10, with the other album returning to the Top 10 this week being the Harry Styles set “Fine Line”, up one spot to No.10 (48th week within the Top 10 too). In between those two climbers are three dropping albums in “Positions” for Ariana Grande (3 to No.7), “F*ck Love/Savage” for The Kid Laroi (4 to No.8) and “T.R.U.T.H.” for Guy Sebastian (6 to No.9), giving us six Aussie acts within the Top 10 this week.

UP:Last week’s new entry for Johnny Cash and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is this week up seven places to a new peak of No.12, while another of last week’s entries for Andrea Bocelli and “Believe” leaps up eleven spots to score a new peak of No.24. The biggest ever selling seasonal-set in Australia in the Michael Buble album “Christmas” leaps up this week twenty-two spots to No.38, with another long-running Xmas set for Mariah Carey and “Merry Christmas” jumping up twelve spots to land this week at No.47, and as she has a new Xmas special coming out soon, this album could jump again, and this week we have five seasonal-sets within the Top 50.

DOWN:Six albums leave the Top 10 this week, with the first two Xmas sets to make the Top 10 this year both dropping down this week for Delta Goodrem and “Only Santa Knows” (5 to No.11, WI10-1) and “Jolly Holiday” for Andre Rieu (10 to No.19, WI10-1). Also down are “Disco” for Kylie Minogue (2 to No.14, WI10-2), “Letter to You” by Bruce Springsteen (9 to No.15, WI10-4) and two more of last week’s new entries in “Against All Odds” by OneFour (7 to No.33, WI10-1) and “Push the Blues Away” for Josh Teskey and Ash Grunwald (HP-8, WI10-1), which falls down into the lower fifty this week. Falling four places each are Sam Smith with “Love Goes” (12 to No.16) and the repackaged Luke Combs set “What You See is What You Get” (14 to No.18), after which the Billie Eilish debut album “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” is leaving the Top 20 for the first time, after 87 weeks of charting it’s down five places to No.22, followed by five place drops for Juice WRLD and “Legends Never Die” and Dua Lipa’s “Future Nostalgia” to No.23 and No.25 respectively. Midnight Oil’s “The Makarrata Project” tumbles down fourteen places to No.30, multi ARIA Award nominees Lime Cordiale and their set “14 Steps to a Better You” is down nine spots to No.32, as too is the Luke Combs debut album “This One’s for You” (27 to No.36). Elton John’s “Diamonds” collection drops down nine to No.39, while the best of sets for Eminem (37 to No.48) and Maroon 5 (36 to No.50) also fall. Machine Gun Kelly’s “Tickets to My Downfall” tumbles eleven spots to No.43, BLACKpink’s “The Album” falls eighteen places to No.46 and the new entries from last week for both Chris Stapleton and Benee drops into the lower fifty this week.

FURTHER NEW ENTRIES:* #17 (EP#4+5) – Holiday Food / Everyone is Good at Something by Skegss (Ratbag/Warner) are the fourth and fifth EP’s from the local act, originally issued in 2016 (Everyone…) and 2017 (Holiday) and for the first time issued on vinyl, and like their third EP “50 Push Ups for a Dollar” (HP-4, late Oct 2020), it becomes the first chart placing for their older re-issued material, plus their fourth albums chart entry all up.

* #28 (LP#1) – Parachutes (20th Ann. Ed.) by Coldplay (Parlophone) has been re-issued on limited edition yellow vinyl for it’s twentieth anniversary, with the set this week in 2000 sitting at No.50, while it would go on to hit No.2 in mid February of 2001 for a four week broken stay.

* #35 (Live#1) – Delicate Sound of Thunder (expanded) by Pink Floyd (Pink Floyd Music/Sony) was the musical giants’ first ever live album, issued in December of 1988, eventually hitting No.4 for two weeks in the last two weeks of that year. Legendary Australian promoter Michael Chugg was a lifelong friend of Max Merritt, who passed away on 24 September.

At that point Max had  just completed ‘I Can Dream’, a labour of love that was built over years.

“Once it started to get to the finished product we hoped Max would still be around,” Chuggi tells Noise11.com. “It was always going to come out. Everybody who involved with it, Wal Bishop, his manager, Jimbo Barton, the producer and Robert Rigby from Ambition, worked really, really hard to get it finished and get it out”.

Chuggi met Max when he was a teenager. “There were a couple of big shows, I was 14 or 15,” Chugg says. “There was one with Billy Thorpe and Screaming Lord Sutch. Thorpie nailed me that night. About three weeks later there was a show with a whole cavalcade of stars of the time on it, Digger Revell, Little Patti. I was sitting there, the second half started and this four piece band walked on stage. The guy had the most amazing voice. I was a big fan of soul music, the Joe Tex’s and the Otis Redding’s, the Sam Cooke’s. Max Merritt and the Meteors walked on stage and they blew my head off. It was right up there with Thorpie. Consqently when I went to Melbourne, those two guys had become very close. I loved Max. He was just a wonderful person”.

George Harrison’s now classic ‘All Things Must Pass’ was released in 27 November, 1970 … 50 years ago today.

To mark the occasion, the Harrison estate has released a 2020 remix of the title track by Paul Hicks, who also mixed the recent John Lennon 80th birthday releases.

A collector’s edition 7” vinyl of ‘My Sweet Lord’ has also been released.

‘All Things Must Pass’ was George Harrison’s third solo album but his first at taking a solo career seriously. The first two ‘Wonderwall Music’ (1968) and ‘Electronic Sound’ (1969) were experimental pieces mixing Indians instruments with psychedelic rock. The made-up word ‘Wonderwall’ in the title ‘Wonderwall Music’ was where Oasis took their song ‘Wonderwall’ from.

1970’s ‘All Things Must Pass’ was a triple album and his first release following the break-up of The Beatles. The first two record were songs George had written over the previous three years. The title track and ‘Isn’t It A Pity’ were intended for Beatles albums. George had presented ‘Isn’t It A Pity’ for inclusion on The Beatles ‘Revolver’ and then ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ but it was not used. ‘All Things Must Pass’ was demoed for ‘The Beatles’ (The White Album) and was included on the expanded box set of that release. An early version was also included on The Beatles ‘Anthology 3’ (released in 1996).

The third disc on ‘All Things Must Pass’ is titled ‘Apple Jam’. It features impromptu jams with Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Ginger Baker, Gary Wright and Dave Mason.

‘All Things Must Pass’ was a number one album in Australia, the USA and the UK. It featured two singles, ‘My Sweet Lord’ and ‘What Is Life’.

Madonna woke up to find she had died today after the death of soccer player Diego Maradona sent  Madonna fans (who obviously aren’t all that smart) freaking out thinking their hero had died.

To be certain, Madonna is not dead. To be certain, Maradona is.

Diego Maradona died from a heart attack after saying it didn’t feel well. Two weeks ago he was being treated for a brain bleed.

The 60-year old soccer star had breakfast with his nephew and went to lie down. A nurse who was with him following his hospital release could not revive him. He had suffered a massive heart attack.

Not long after the news of the death of Maradona, Madonna started to trend on Twitter with fans mistaking one for the other.

Apparently The Weeknd doesn’t make music for you. He makes it for himself and when he didn’t get an ego boost of self-gratification from The Grammy Awards this week he cracked the shits.

The Weeknd didn’t receive any Grammy nominations for his fourth album ‘After Hours’. Not one, zero, zilch.  And that set him off like a corrupt politician calling an election rigged when he loses.

“The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency…,” he tweeted.

So should he have been nominated? Not necessarily. The Grammy Awards is not a popularity contest. Having a number one record doesn’t not entitle you to a nomination.

The Weeknd’s ‘After Hours’ and the three singles it contained ‘Heartless’, ‘Blinding Lights’ and ‘In Your Eyes’ were all released in the qualifying period between 1 September 2019 and 31 August 2020.

300 music industry expects initially filter the submissions, 13000 members then vote on the shortlist which is then published as the nominations.

The Weeknd has been Grammy friendly in the past. He has been nominated 10 times and won three. ‘After Hours’ was a number one album, so given his track record of nominations and wins it is surprising that ‘After Hours’ did not qualify for one nomination in 2020.

However, should that be an automatic process? No. Again, the Grammy Awards are not a popularity contest.

The Weeknd claims he is being punished for negotiating hard for an appearance at the show. The simple fact is with a panel of that size that the panel was just not sold on his new music.

Does that make them out of step with general public views? Yes. Does that make then wrong? No.

Australian composer Robert J. Sedky has covered Bob Dylan’s 1997 ‘Time Out Of Mind’ track ‘Not Dark Yet’ for his upcoming E.P. ‘Singing’.

Of Robert’s version of ‘Not Dark Yet’ he tells Noise11.com, “I recorded the song in a few takes during Victorias lockdown reminding me to appreciate the simple things in life. The lyrics and the overall atmosphere of the song reveal otherworldly images in my mind. The result is a modern masterpiece, artists like Dylan come around once in a generation”.

Robert J. Sedky’s ‘Singing’ E.P. features:

Daddy – ColdPlay Everyday Life (2019)

Gold in Them Hills – Ron Sexsmith  Cobblestone Runway  (2002)

Not Dark Yet – Bob Dylan Time out of Mind (1997)

Love and Mercy – Brian Wilson Brian Wilson (1988)

Dylan’s ‘Not Dark Yet’ appeared in the movies ‘Wonder Boys’ starring Michael Douglas and Tobey Maguire (2000) and ‘Last Flag Flying’ (2017) starring Steve Carell, Bryan Cranston and Laurence Fishburne.

In October 2020 Australian singer songwriter Mike McLellan also used a line from the song, with full authorization from Bob Dylan, for his song ‘Letter To America’.

Robert J. Sedky’s first professional film score job came after he opened for Sir Elton John on an national tour playing with Eran James in 2007. “After the show I got chatting to a man who had seen me play. We had a lovely conversation that soon led to our shared love of cinema, and I told him I had just completed a few short film scores. It was at this point that he smiled and told me he was Martin Dingle Wall an actor producer looking to hire a composer for a feature film, The Nothing Men. This was the beginning of a new chapter and a whole new learning curve for me,” Robert recalls.

Wall played Wesley Timms in the movie alongside Colin Friels, who played Jack Simpson.

Robert composed the score and sound design for Monster Media’s production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest at the Melbourne Theatre Company (2017); he composed the score for the Academy Accredited Beast, winner of Best Australian Short Film at Flickerfest (2017); and he received his first international score nomination for the film 10 Grand at Cinefest (2018). Sedky was the recipient of Creative Victoria’s Artist in Schools program (2016).

Goo Goo Dolls will premiere what they call an “augmented reality movie musical’ in December.

Goo Goo Dolls are blending there older songs, some new ones, some Christmas cheer and some special guests into a Christmas story to debut on 11 December 2020.

Writer, director, and producer Barry Summers, Co-Founder & President of FanTracks Digital LLC, says, “We built all these scenes from the live footage we captured of the Goo Goo Dolls along with special guest performers in October, and then using augmented reality, layered in the environments, animation, and more to create something really special that the world has not seen before. The band’s performance is outstanding, and It’s Christmas All Over is sure to become an instant holiday classic.”

“It was such an amazing experience getting to play songs from our new record live for the first time,” says John Rzeznik. “We can’t wait for everyone to see and hear these Christmas tunes in this unique way, and we hope they bring some cheer to this peculiar holiday season. Happy holidays from all of us to every single one of you!!”

‘It’s Christmas All Over’ will debut on 12 December. Get tickets here

Comedian Trevor Noah will host the 2021 Grammy Awards.

The Daily Show presenter was announced as the person set to take the reins for the 63rd edition of the music prizegiving on 31 January, bosses at the Recording Academy announced on Tuesday.

It will be the South African funnyman’s first time hosting the ceremony, taking over from last year’s host Alicia Keys.

In a statement, he said: “Despite the fact that I am extremely disappointed that the Grammys have refused to have me sing or be nominated for best pop album, I am thrilled to be hosting this auspicious event.

“I think as a one-time Grammy nominee, I am the best person to provide a shoulder to all the amazing artists who do not win on the night because I too know the pain of not winning the award! (This is a metaphorical shoulder, I’m not trying to catch Corona). See you at the 63rd Grammys!”

Noah’s hosting gig was announced hours before the Grammy nominees were revealed on Tuesday.

The ceremony will air on U.S. network CBS, with details of the event and how it will be affected by the Covid-19 pandemic yet to be decided.

Dua Lipa is set to be joined by Kylie Minogue for a duet as part of her upcoming ‘Studio 2054’ live-stream.

Dua Lipa has bagged the Australian disco queen as a special guest for her star-studded virtual event on November 27, which is inspired by the iconic New York nightclub, Studio 54.

This year, both Dua and Kylie released hit disco-pop records in ‘Future Nostalgia’ and ‘DISCO’, respectively.
Dua told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “I am beyond excited to reveal that the legendary Kylie will be performing with me.

“She is one of my all-time heroes and female artists and the idea of collaborating with her is what pure dreams are made of. I adored her headlining show at Glastonbury and can’t wait for her to join us at Studio 2054.”

Kylie added: “Dua is a shining light and a force of nature in pop and I’m absolutely thrilled to be performing with her at her live-stream — we’re ready for the disco!”

The announcement that the pair are teaming up for a performance comes hours after Kylie listed Dua among the female artists she’d love to collaborate with.

She shared: “I’d love to collaborate with more women, because I haven’t done much of that. You could say any of the top girls right now: Dua is definitely having a great time. Lady Gaga. I love Miley [Cyrus]. I admire so many of these women.

“There’s been talk about Madonna and I doing a duet for, it feels like, 20 years. If that were to happen, that would be amazing. I was dressing up in my bedroom to Madonna, to Whitney Houston, to Cyndi Lauper, and then Fleetwood Mac, ABBA, and Donna Summer.”

Kylie joins the likes of FKA twigs, J Balvin and Bad Bunny as the special guests for ‘Studio 2054’.

The Grammy-winner has promised a “brand new multi-dimensional live experience” for the upcoming concert, which is set to stream from a warehouse.

Dua Lipa’s fans will be treated to songs from ‘Future Nostalgia’, its remix edition ‘Club Future Nostalgia’ and her self-titled 2017 debut.

A press release revealed Dua will “move through custom-built sets, surreal tv shows, roller discos, ecstatic raves, trashy rocker hangouts, voguing ballrooms and diva style dressing rooms”.
