Rock legend Alice Cooper may have his first number one in Australia but the end of this week based on midweek sales of his ‘Detroit Stories’ album.

‘Detroit Stores’ is one of Alice’s hardest rocking records in decades. “It’s about Detroit,” Alice tells Noise11.com. “We were going to do a hard rock album and the home of hard rock in America is Detroit. Los Angeles had The Doors and Love and Buffalo Springfield. San Francisco was psychedelic country with bands like Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane. New York was really sophisticated with the Young Rascals. Detroit had Iggy and the Stooges, the MC5, Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, Bob Seger, Suzi Quatro, all hard rock bands. Because that’s what that city was about. People did not like soft rock. Bands like Seals & Crofts would have gotten killed in Detroit”.

Watch the Noise11 Alice Cooper interview:

Alice Cooper’s first chart album in Australia was ‘School’s Out’ in 1972. It peaked at no 5. Alice’s highest charting album in Australia was ‘Lace and Whiskey’ (1977, no 3). His previous album ‘Paranormal’ peaked at no 6.

‘Detroit Stories’ features the original Alice Cooper band Michael Bruce (guitar), Dennis Dunaway (bass) and Neil Smith (drums) and ‘Social Debris’ and ‘I Hate You’.

U2’s Larry Mullen Jr plays on ‘Shut Up And Rock’. Alice’s wife Sherly and daughter Calico sing on the two covers Lou Reed’s ‘ Rock N Roll’ and Outrageous Cherry’s ‘Our Love Will Change The World’, Wayne Kramer of the MC5 is all over the record, Joe Bonamassa is on ‘Rock n Roll’ and ‘Drunk and in Love’, Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad is on four tracks and Debra Sledge of Sister Sledge pops up on ‘$1000 High Heel Shoes’.

Artists worldwide are paying tribute to music industry legend Michael Gudinski who passed away in his sleep in his Melbourne home overnight.

Leo Sayer is part of the upcoming Apia tour, promoted by the Mushroom Group. In a statement Leo tells Noise11.com, “I’m in total shock over Michael. I don’t reckon he can never be replaced, no-one ever did more for the Australian music industry than he did. We are all running around like lost sheep today. Vale my friend.”

Jimmy Barnes, one of Michael’s closest friends said, “Today the heart of Australian music was ripped out. I felt it, my family felt it, the music business felt it, the world felt it. Michael Gudinski was not only that heart but he was my friend”.

Bruce Springsteen said, “My friend Michael Gudinski was first, last, and always a music man. I’ve toured the world for the last fifty years and never met a better promoter. Michael always spoke with a deep rumbling voice, and the words would spill out so fast that half the time I needed an interpreter. But I could hear him clear as bell when he would say, “Bruce, I’ve got you covered”.

Anthony Albanese wrote, “Shocked and saddened to hear about the death of Michael Gudinski. We were both at the Oils gig in Sydney on Thursday. It’s hard to think of anyone who did more for Australian music than Michael. Vale”.

Kylie Minogue commented, “MICHAEL GUDINSKI – Legend. Legacy. LOVE. A Titan of the music industry. One of a kind and forever family to me. My heart is broken and I can’t believe he’s gone. Irreplaceable and unforgettable, I’ll always love you ‘The Big G’”.

“This is truly devastating news. Not just for the music industry which he built nearly single handedly, but for his family, who he adored. A giant. Michael Gudinski dead aged 68, industry in shock”, David Campbell said.

Russell Crowe wrote, “RIP Michael Gudinski. Seems almost impossible. A towering figure on the Australian cultural landscape. I’m not sure we ever agreed on anything, except maybe @edsheeran. Still didn’t stop us from being mates for 30 years. I’m going to miss him deeply. My love to his family.”

Foo Fighters posted, “Thank You Michael Gudinski for giving us and countless others the best night of our lives. Over and over again. A true fucking legend. We will miss you dearly. Rock & Roll will miss you deeply.”

Michael Gudinski, an absolute juggernaut of the Australian music industry, has died at the age of 68.

Michael Gudinski was the founder of Mushroom Records and later Frontier Touring Company. Michael started Mushroom records in 1972. The first album was the 1973 Sunbury Festival. Two years later Mushroom released Skyhooks ‘Living In The 70s’ and went on to become the biggest selling Australian album for its time.

After Skyhooks Michael signed unknown New Zealand band Split Enz who, despite having little success for their first few albums, went on to have one of the iconic albums of the 80s with ‘True Colours’ and the song ‘I Got You’.

Gudinski founded The Frontier Touring Company in 1979. The company is now the largest touring company in Australia and one of the biggest in the world after having toured Springsteen, McCartney, The Stones and Madonna.

Official Statement from Mushroom Group

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Gudinski AM overnight. The much-loved Australian music legend died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Melbourne, Australia.

Michael Gudinski was a key figure in shaping the Australian music industry. He founded the Mushroom Group in 1972 at just 20 years old, which flourished into Australia’s largest independent entertainment group covering touring, record labels, publishing, merchandising, booking agencies, film and television production and creative services. Some of Australia’s most iconic albums have been released under one of his Mushroom Group record labels. His touring company Frontier Touring is Australia’s leading promoter, touring the biggest names in global music since its inception in 1979.

A larger-than-life figure, Michael was widely respected for his unwavering passion for all music – in particular Australian music. Most recently, with the music industry severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Michael conceptualised and developed Music From The Home Front, The Sound and The State Of Music, platforms designed to showcase and support contemporary Australian music in an incredibly difficult time. It speaks to the man he was that of his countless illustrious career achievements these projects, that supported the industry he loved, were ones he was particularly proud of.

Michael was renowned for his loyalty and dedication. His ability to achieve the unachievable against unsurmountable odds was proven time and again and spoke to his absolute passion for his career and life.

Michael’s family loved him immensely and Michael in turn adored his wife Sue, son Matt and partner Cara, daughter Kate and husband Andrew and their children Nina-Rose and Lulu. They meant everything to him, and he was immensely proud of them. Michael often referred to his 200+ staff as the Mushroom Family, with many having clocked decades in his employment.

Michael’s legacy will live on through his family and the enormously successful Mushroom Group – an enduring embodiment of decades of passion and determination from an incredible man.

The family respectfully ask for privacy in this incredibly difficult time and thank everyone for their support.

Please note there will be no further comment at this time.

Splendour in the Grass has been postponed again due to Covid. It will now be on in November.

However, the good news is the headliners Gorillaz, The Strokes and Tyler The Creator will remain for the new dates.

“Huge thanks to our headliners for being flexible and to our amazing Splendour community for their ongoing support. We miss you and we can guarantee that when we see you in November it’s going to be worth the wait!” said Splendour in the Grass co-founders Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco.

“We had so hoped to bring you Splendour’s 20th Anniversary edition this July but we can’t stage the event that you know and love within the current restrictions and international border closures.

“Since March 2020, not a single festival in Australia has been able to run at full capacity and the industry is currently operating at a fraction of pre-Covid levels.

“Australia’s live music industry is made up of many sole traders and small businesses alongside the larger tour and event promoters. In support of them all, we implore the government to provide some form of continued wage subsidy until the industry can once again operate at full capacity.

“And to the music loving public, when a tour or event is postponed we ask you to hold onto your tickets. This is the best way to support your favourite artist or event right now.”

Ticket holders who are not able to attend the new dates will be able to apply for a refund from 12.00pm today until Wednesday 31 March. Moshtix will be in touch with all account holders directly with more information. Please note that refunds need to be requested by the purchaser i.e. if a mate purchased your ticket for you, they will also need to request your refund for you.

Musician David Bridie has been named as recipient of the 2021 Australian Antarctic Arts Fellowship along with photographer Keith Deverell.

As part of the prize the pair will record and film Antarctica’s natural soundscapes and create an audio-visual document with a soundtrack album of their experience.

David Bridie is one of Australia’s most revered musicians. He is the co-founder of Not Drowning, Waving and My Friend The Chocolate Cake. His soundtracks include ‘The Man Who Sued God’, ‘The Circuit’ and ‘Secret City’.

“I regard this as one of the most fabulous artistic opportunities I have been given and look forward to diving right in,” said Mr Bridie. “I am honoured to be awarded the Australian Antarctic Arts Fellowship. I look forward to immersing myself in the sounds and stories that resonate from this place and create a piece of work that reflects the history, science, unique beauty and geography of the only continent where people never lived.”

Dr. Keith Deverell is a Melbourne based visual artist with a background in interactive design.

“The Antarctic Arts Fellowship means so much to me as an artist because Antarctica is a place you think you will never get to see, just like space,” said Dr Deverell.
“Antarctica is so pivotal to the world, it is the source of so many crucial systems, oscillations and reverberations, to stand within them, experience them and interact with them is something very special.”
Applications are now open for the 2022 Australian Antarctic Arts Fellowship

This year’s Download Festival has been cancelled as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The rock festival had been scheduled for June 4-6 with Kiss, System of a Down and Biffy Clyro headlining but has been axed for a second year running due to COVID-19, as UK government guidelines means that live music cannot return for until later in the summer.

Download organisers Festival Republic have assured fans that the festival will return in 2022. Kiss and Biffy Clyro will return with Iron Maiden as the third headliner. Tickets for the event will go on sale on March 5.

Download Festival’s Andy Copping said: “Downloaders, your 2022 headliners are here! Rock ‘n’ roll legends Kiss will be kicking off Friday in style, Iron Maiden will return bringing with them mascot Eddie and more fire than we can handle, and what better way to end the festival than with Biffy who will leave us awestruck with their energy. I’m counting down the days already!”

Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson expressed delight that the rockers will be returning to the event after their planned appearance in 2020 was cancelled due to the pandemic.

The 62-year-old singer said: “Like everyone, we were all hugely disappointed when the global pandemic forced the cancellation of Download 2020 which would have been Maiden’s seventh time headlining here.

“So we are delighted to be invited back and fulfil our ambition of playing Donington Park in every decade since the 1980s!

“As most people know, this Festival is hallowed ground for us (and Eddie!) and our fans’ vocal support and enthusiasm is always phenomenal and much appreciated. We can’t wait to see everyone again, and are determined to make the show one hell of a party and the greatest homecoming ever!”

Barry Gibb Signals Another Bee Gees Documentary http://www.noise11.com/news/barry-gibb-signals-another-bee-gees-documentary-20210302 Mon, 01 Mar 2021 14:21:36 +0000 http://www.noise11.com/?p=161212 Barry Gibb has revealed fans of the Bee Gees can expect a biographical film within the next couple of years, which is set to follow the 2020 documentary, 'The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart'.

Barry Gibb has revealed fans of the Bee Gees can expect a biographical film within the next couple of years, which is set to follow the 2020 documentary, ‘The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart’.

Barry is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column as saying: “The biopic could be about two years away.
“You shall see how I saw the world through my eyes, and there are a lot of things that nobody ever knew about.

“It is a million moments, you know – a million moments that change your life in one day.”

The musician also has an autobiography in the works with his son Ashley, 43, and teased that the tome contains content not suitable for the screen.

He added: “There are things in the book that could never be in the film.”

The biopic and book news comes after it was previously reported that Bradley Cooper was approached by producers over the possibility of playing the eldest of the Gibb brothers, who enjoyed global chart-topping success with younger brothers Robin and Maurice, in an upcoming flick.

The film is to follow the group from the time they arrived in London from Australia and had their first number one hit with ‘Massachusetts’ in 1967.

The band unravelled in subsequent years with substances, pills and booze involved, before Barry led a revival in the 1970s as the Bee Gees embraced a disco sound.

Barry is the last surviving member of the group, as Maurice died in 2003 and Robin passed away in 2012.
The untitled movie is yet to get a director but is to be produced by Graham King, who worked on the Queen biopic ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.

Paramount Pictures are also involved in the film and have purchased the rights from the Gibb estate to use the Bee Gees’ classic music.

Paramount were also involved in ‘Rocketman’, which starred Taron Egerton as Sir Elton John.

The motion picture is being written by Anthony McCarten, who has become much sought-after scripting flicks such as ‘The Theory of Everything’, ‘Darkest Hour’ and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.

Noel Gallagher was seen shooting a promo for his upcoming High Flying Birds single with the 38-year-old ‘The Crown’ star Matt Smith, and an unknown actress, in West London.

Matt and his co-star were seen riding in a classic black Jaguar motor, seemingly the one Noel purchased for a whopping £100,000 in Oasis’ heyday, despite not having a driver’s licence.

A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “The video is for Noel’s upcoming single with his band High Flying Birds, but he wanted it to be special.

“These days a lot of people don’t bother with proper videos, but Noel is a bit old school and still values a video that helps communicate the message of a track.

“It’s a cool, heavily styled aesthetic and Matt is the perfect guy to take the lead.”

While an onlooker added of the female seen on set with pals Noel and Matt – who attended Gallagher’s star-studded 50th birthday in 2017 – that : “I’m not sure exactly who she is, but they looked the part together. Matt’s suit was really cool, the car, and her outfit looked the business — really retro, and it’s a great track.”

Noel had previously quipped about his retro whip: “I thought when I became a rock star, I was gonna need a car. So I got a Mk2 Jaguar from 1967, the year I was born. It’s got 12 miles on the clock and it just sits in the garage.”

Meanwhile, Gallagher – who recently teamed up with dance duo CamelPhat on the tech-house track, ‘Not Over Yet’ – recently admitted his latest couple of tracks “are easily the best” High Flying Birds stuff he’s ever done.

He said: “I have to say the two tunes I’ve done over the last couple of weeks are easily the best of the High Flying Birds stuff I’ve done, one of them is just fucking ‘wow’, I even amaze myself sometimes.”

The hook line from the first song of the first Nine Inch Nails album featured the lyrics “Head like a hole/Black as your soul/I’d rather die than give you control”. The year was 1989. If someone told you then Trent Reznor would one day win a Golden Globe for a Disney movie about a ‘Soul’ you would have thought they were mad.

Its 2021 and hey guess what? Trent Reznor has just won the Golden Globe award for Best Original Score for the movie … ‘Soul’.

Reznor, the creator of Nine Inch Nails, thanks Disney and Pixar for the opportunity to work on the hit movie ‘Soul’ saying in his acceptance speech that the work was “the first piece of art I’ve ever made in my life that I can show to my kids.”

The name of the first Nine Inch Nails album was ‘Pretty Hate Machine’. The first song was ‘Head Like A Hole’.

‘Pretty Hate Machine’ peaked at no 75 on the US Billboard chart. Although released in October 1989, it did not make an appearance in the chart until February 1990. By 1992 it was certified Gold for sales over 500,000. By 1993, it had become the first independent album to go Platinum (1,000,000 sales). By 1995, it had sold over 3,000,000 copies in the USA.

Trent Reznor wrote the music for ‘Soul’ with Atticus Rose and Jon Batiste.

Reznor and Rose have also written the scores for ‘The Social Network’ (2010), ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ (2011), ‘Gone Girl’ (2014) and ‘Bird Box’ (2018).

“Terra Firma” by Tash Sultana (Lonely Lands/Sony) is the 908th No.1 Album in Australia (1965 to 2021), the 758th for ARIA (1983 to 2021), the seventh No.1 album for 2021 and the first for her record label ‘Lonely Lands’, while she is also the first female artist at the top since Taylor Swift’s ‘evermore’ held over from 2020 for the first two weeks of this year. This also becomes Tash’s third Top 10 berth after her second EP “Notion” (HP-8, Oct. 2016) and her first album “Flow State” (HP-2, Sept. 2018).

This is the first time that the words ‘Terra’ and ‘Firma’ have appeared in a No.1 album title, with the only other charted “Terra Firma” being for Phil & Tommy Emmanuel, which hit No.12 in March of 1995. Of the eight No.1 albums for this year, six (five fully local) Aussie’s have hit No.1, with this new entry becoming the sixth after The Rubens, The Kid Laroi, Bluey, Illy and Barry Gibb (the former Aussie). Overall this new No.1 album by a local artist becomes the 256th to hit the top here (since the first in 1968), while Tash Sultana becomes the 122nd Australian Artist (solo, duo, group, male or female) to score a No.1 album locally. The last local solo female artist to hit No.1 in Australia was Kylie Minogue with “DISCO” on November 16th, 2020, and overall this is now the 139th No.1 Album by a Solo Female Artist (local or overseas), and Tash becomes the 16th Solo Australian Female Artist to hit No.1, since Olivia Newton-John was the first in 1978, 1980 and 1983 (the first two were soundtrack appearances on ‘Grease’ and ‘Xanadu’).

The next two albums are repackaged editions of the original albums, with last weeks repacked flier for Dua Lipa and “Future Nostalgia (Moonlight Edition)” this week up one spot to No.2, followed by the new ‘Deluxe Edition’ of “Positions” for Ariana Grande which leaps back up twenty-nine spots to land at No.3, with the set now featuring five extra tracks/remixes and it gives the album its seventh week within the Top 10 and its second week during 2021 for a Top 10 appearance (#10 on 11-Jan-21).

Four albums within the Top 10 are on hold this week, and up next are three of them; with “F**k Love (mixtape)” / “Savage (EP)” for The Kid Laroi, “The Highlights” by The Weeknd and “Fine Line” by Harry Styles all non-movers this week at No.4, No.5 and No.6 respectively, while the fourth and final on-hold-LP is at No.8 for Pop Smoke and “Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon”.

The only dropping album within the Top 10 this week is down five places to No.7, the Foo Fighters latest entry “Medicine at Midnight”. Returning to the Top 100 this at No.9 is the ‘Anniversary Edition’ of the last BTS album “BE”, giving the album its third overall week within the Top 10 and it’s first chart entry since leaving the Top 100 on January 25th, 2021 after an initial eight weeks of chart, peaking at No.2 upon entry. The fourth entry and second NEW entry to the Top 10 this week is the 15th studio album for local country artist Adam Harvey called “Songs from Highway One”, which by entering at No.10 this week becomes his sixth Top 10 album in Australia and also his thirteenth overall chart entry (12 studios and 1 Best of), with his last entry being August 2018’s “The Nashville Tapes” (HP-9).

UP:
TOP 20: Three country (themed) albums climb back up within the Top 20, the current U.S. (6th week) and Canadian (returns for a 5th week) No.1 Album for Morgan Wallen and “Dangerous: The Double Album” is back up to No.12, followed by Luke Combs’ “What You See is What You Get” (17 to No.13) and after leaving the Top 10 last week the Barry Gibb “Songbook” set rebounds six spots to No.16. Rising back up five places to No.19 is the Fleetwood Mac “Rumours” album.
TOP 30: Elton John’s “Diamonds” collection rises again this week, up three to No.22, while the past week saw the announcement of French dance duo Daft Punk officially splitting up, which has seen their last studio album “Random Access Memories” (HP-1×2, peaked late May 2013) return to the chart at No.24. Lewis Capaldi’s debut album rises four to No.25, Maroon 5’s “Singles Collection” is also up four to No.27 and AC/DC’s “Power Up” resurges back up twelve places to No.29.
TOP 40: Post Malone issued a new song on Friday, a cover of the 1995 Hootie & the Blowfish track “Only Wanna Be With You” for the ‘Pokemon 25th Anniversary’, and he also sees his older album “Hollywood’s Bleeding” rise back up three spots to No.32, while collections for Eminem (38 to No.34) and INXS (42 to No.38) along with ‘The Greatest Showman’ soundtrack (48 to No.40) also move back up the chart this week.
TOP 50: Ed Sheeran’s only current Top 50 entry in his duets set “No.6 Collaborations Project”, which is back up five spots to No.41, followed by climbers from below the Top 50 from last week for Halsey and “Manic” (52 to No.46), Green Day’s Best of (57 to No.47, they also issued a new track on Friday), Doja Cat (53 to No.48) and Polo G with “The Goat” (54 to No.50), which is the same position his albums’ singles entry “Martin & Gina” is sitting at over on that chart.

DOWN:
TOP 20: One of the four album dropouts this week falls into the Top 20 chart region, with “evermore” (HP-1×4, WI10-10) by Taylor Swift down two places to No.11 and leaving the Top 10 for the first time in its eleven week chart run, while the only other Top 20 dropping album is Taylor’s previous album to this one in “folklore”, down a spot to No.20.
TOP 30: Last week’s No.1 album for The Rubens called “0202” (HP-1, WI10-1) drops a massive twenty places this week to land at No.21. The only two other slipping albums here are two places drops for both The Weeknd’s “After Hours” (21 to No.23) and “Tickets to My Downfall” by Machine Gun Kelly (26 to No.28).
TOP 40: Lime Cordiale’s “14 Steps to a Better You” falls five to No.33, with single place drops occurring here for Miley Cyrus’s “Plastic Hearts” (30 to No.31), “?” for XXXTentacion (34 to No.35) and “1989” by Taylor Swift (36 to No.37), which is backed with her “Lover” set up one spot to No.36.
TOP 50: The second and final album to score a second week within the Top 50 after debuting last week is UK rapper Slowthai with his second set “Tyron”, which plummets thirty-one spots this week to land at No.42, and it’s the only declining album within this chart region. Two of last weeks entries which leave to land within the lower fifty this week are Luca Brasi with “Everything is Tenuous” (#7) and “Chasing Ghosts” for The Amity Affliction (#10), while new entries from last week for Sia (#12), The Pretty Reckless (#15) and Spacey Jane (#23) all leave the Top 50 this week after entering or returning last week.

NO FURTHER NEW ENTRIES THIS WEEK.

During lockdown Ella Hooper created a new album ‘Small Town Temple’. Now she’ll have the chance to perform her lockdown album out of lockdown.

Ella said in a statement “Small Town Temple is inspired by growing up as well as my recent time locked down in Violet Town, along with some relationship break-up songs. One song in particular, Small Town Temple is just me recognising and celebrating the humble beauty of the beaten-up church building my mum lives in, and how it’s a meeting place for all kinds of folks and community. Community and gathering is something that suffered a lot in lockdown and even though things have improved, it’s hard to return to normal as the effects of the pandemic drag through disrupting our usual social habits and behaviours.”

Ella Hooper dates:

Friday 26 March, 8pm
Hawthorn Arts Centre
360 Burwood Road, Hawthorn
Tickets $38 / Concession $32

The Who may not make another album because they won’t make any money from it.

The Who – which now comprises of just Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend – are proud of how well-received 2019’s ‘Who’ was but they made a loss on the record and there was tension between the two of them, so they are reluctant to do it again.

Roger told Uncut magazine: “Will there be another Who album? I don’t know.

“There’s no record market any more. Everybody talks about streaming, but have you seen what artists get from that? It’s a joke.

“It was great to have an album out there, something that the fans liked, and I was really proud of it.

“But far too much money was spent making it. It went out of control completely and ended up costing me money. I can’t go on doing that.”

And Pete admitted the difficulties they had making ‘Who’ has put him off wanting to make another record “a little bit”.

He said: “It was tough. I think it was tough for Roger too. I think he and I have found a sort of common ground over it, but there is still a sense that we only just about got it done.

“There’s a certain amount of resentment on both sides. Partly on Roger’s side, perhaps, resentment that we were paid a lot of money for the album and it was all spent making it.

“On my side, the fact that Roger was so actively diffident at first.

“Now he’s proud of what he did on the record and so he should be because he did such a great job.

“But our process is now just me and him and we’re very different – politically, socially, spiritually, different in every respect. But we happen to be in this band together.”

Despie this, the 75-year-old guitarist admitted he’d still like to make another album.

He added: “I do want to make another one and I probably will. It’s been on my mind a lot.”

Taylor Swift has officially cancelled her Lover Fest shows.

Swift announced the 2020 summer festival-style gigs shortly after the release of her Lover album in 2019 and stalled them when the Covid-19 pandemic shut down venues last year.

She was hoping to reschedule the concerts, but on Friday the singer decided she could no longer commit to the shows.

“I love coming on here to tell you good news, or to share a new project with you,” she wrote on her social media accounts. “It’s not my favorite thing in the world to have to tell you news I’m sad about.

“I’m so sorry, but I cannot reschedule the shows that we’ve postponed. Although refunds have been available since we first postponed the Lover Fest shows, many of you hung onto your tickets and I too hung onto the idea that we could reschedule.

“This is an unprecedented pandemic that has changed everyone’s plans and no one knows what the touring landscape is going to look like in the near future. I’m so disappointed that I won’t be able to see you in person as soon as I wanted to. I miss you terribly and can’t wait til we can all safely be at shows together again.”

Fans might not be able to see Swift live any time soon, but she has kept them busy with new and reworked music – she released two albums, Folklore and Evermore, in 2020 and is currently reworking the tracks on her 2008 record, Fearless, which will be re-released in April.

Smith/Kotzen is Iron Maiden’s Adrian Smith and The Winery Gods Richie Kotzen. Their debut album is coming March 26.

Smith and Kotzen have made a video for the song ‘Scars’. Richie says, ‘I remember Scars being one of the songs we wrote in the very beginning of the process. There is something moody and mysterious going on in this track that I find quite engaging. Smith recruited his Iron Maiden mate Nicko McBrian for drums on ‘Solar Fire’. Ritchie’s band mate Tal Bergman plays drums on three tracks ‘You Don’t Know Me’, ‘I Wanna Stay’ and ‘‘Til Tomorrow’. Ricthie plays drums on the other five tracks.

‘Smith/Kotzen’ by Adrian Smith and Richie Kotzen will be released on 26 March, 2021.

California’s AFI have been around 30 years this year. Davey Havok formed AFI in November 1991 with a couple of mates at school. Adam Carson joined shortly after and current members Hunter Burgan and Jade Puget joined in 1997 and 1998.

“I couldn’t do what I do in AFI in any other place,” says Jade Puget. “Davey and I have written songs together for over 20 years now. I couldn’t find the thing he and I have together anywhere else, nor the thing the four of us have when we come together. AFI is home for me and will always be that.”

Having worked together now for more than 22 years, AFI are about to release their 11th album ‘Bodies’. “After years of receiving early versions of songs from Jade and Davey, in forms that span loosely arranged chords and scratch vocal to fully realized demos, I think I have become quite adept at knowing which songs will or will not make the record,” says Adam Carson. “‘Begging For Trouble’ was green lit, at least in my mind, the moment I heard the vocals come in. To me, the track is a cornerstone of the new record.”

AFI have made a video for ‘Looking Tragic’:

‘Bodies’ is another different sounding album for AFI. “Anyone who knows our catalog knows that no two records really sit together,” Puget points out. “Some sit a little closer, maybe. We do certain things, just by virtue of who we are, that are consistent, but those things come about organically. Every time we do something, I have to judge it on its own merits. Some fans are going to judge a new album, or a new song, based on what’s come before. But as artists, we can’t do that, because it would only hinder our creativity.”

BODIES TRACKLISTING
1. Twisted Tongues
2. Far Too Near
3. Dulcería
4. On Your Back
5. Escape From Los Angeles
6. Begging For Trouble
7. Back From The Flesh
8. Looking Tragic
9. Death Of The Party

Alter Bridge frontman Myles Kennedy has released a video for ‘In Stride’ ahead of the release of his second solo album ‘The Ides of March’.

‘In Stride’ was directed by Stefano Bertelli and portrays an animated Kennedy taking things easy at the end of the world. “Chill out. That pretty much sums it up says Myles. “The lyric paints a picture of a survivalist preparing for an impending zombie apocalypse. It was inspired by the first wave of lockdowns as everyone was buying vast amounts of toilet paper and supplies. I started to ask myself if it might be wise to try and gain some perspective and not overreact… keep calm and carry on.”

‘The Ides of March’ will be released in May 2021.

The Ides Of March tracklisting:
1) Get Along
2) A Thousand Words
3) In Stride
4) The Ides of March
5) Wake Me When It’s Over
6) Love Rain Down
7) Tell It Like It Is
8) Moonshot
9) Wanderlust Begins
10) Sifting Through The Fire
11) Worried Mind

As well as Alter Bridge, Myles is also lead vocalist for Slash’s backing band Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators. His first solo album ‘Year of the Tiger’ was released in 2018.

James Reyne will get his The Boys Light Up tour back on the road with 41st anniversary shows to make up with the 2020 shut down (to coin a Reyne songtitle).

The first Australian Crawl album ‘The Boys Light Up’ was released in April 1980. Ironically the 40th anniversary of the second album ‘Sirocco’ comes close to these dates. ‘Sirroco’ was released on 20 July 1981.

That album featured the hits:

Beautiful People (1979, no 22)

The Boys Light Up (1980, no 22)

Downhearted (1980, no 12)

‘The Boys Light Up’ reached no 4 in Australia and sold over 250,000 albums.

James wrote, “Boys Light Up turned forty just last year
Boy, that’s the year that wasn’t
We had a tour all planned and booked
That became the tour that couldn’t
But we’ve dusted off the covid blues
Crawled from pandemic pit
‘Cause we’re rarin’ all to go
And we’re champing at the bit
So, we’re coming to your town
For the song’s NEW Come-Of-Age
Bring all your bells and whistles
‘Cause we’ll be BLISTERING the stage
There’ll be thrills and skills and spills
As we bring the ROCKING fun
Come one, come all LIGHT UP
‘Cause these BOYS now turn FORTY-ONE!”

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and his mum are developing a new series based on her book From Cradle to Stage: Stories from the Mothers Who Rocked and Raised Rock Stars for new streaming site Paramount+.

The six-parter, directed by the rocker, will feature successful musicians’ mothers chatting about the special bond they have with their famous sons and daughters. Dave’s mum, Virginia, will appear in one episode, while the others will include the mums of Dr. Dre, Amy Winehouse, and R.E.M. star Michael Stipe.

From Cradle to Stage is just one of the exciting new shows coming to the streamer – one-time MTV staple Yo! MTV Raps will return with hosted segments and live performances, while VH1’s documentary series Behind the Music will make a comeback, as will sitcom Frasier and animated hit Rugrats. Nickelodeon’s Dora The Explorer and The Fairly OddParents will also get live-action series remakes via Paramount+.

And, as an added bonus for subscribers, Paramount+ bosses have announced both Mission: Impossible 7 and A Quiet Place Part II will be released on the streaming site just 45 days after they hit cinemas. Paramount+ will also stream the upcoming Paw Patrol animated movie 45 days after it hits theatres, according to Deadline.

U.S. First Lady Jill Biden gave Kelly Clarkson advice on how to get through a divorce during a new appearance on the singer’s talk show.

The singer and daytime talk show host, who filed for divorce from her spouse of seven years, Brandon Blackstock, last June, received words of wisdom from Jill, who divorced her first husband, bar owner Bill Stevenson, in 1975, during her first TV interview as First Lady.

“I want to tell you, Kelly, this is what I would say to you if I was your mother,” Jill said in a clip from The Kelly Clarkson Show, which airs on Thursday. “My mother always used to say to me, ‘Things will look better in the morning’

“If you can take one day at a time things will look better. You know, I look back on it now and I think if I hadn’t gotten divorced, I never would have met Joe. I wouldn’t have the beautiful family I have now. So I think things really happened for the best and I think over time, Kelly, I don’t know how long it’s been for you, and over time you will heal and you’re going to be surprised.”

“I can’t wait until that day comes for you and you’re going to call me up and say, ‘Jill, you were right,'” she added.

Jill married now U.S. President Joe Biden in 1975. In November, it was reported that Kelly had she won primary custody of her and Brandon’s two children – River and Remington – but her estranged husband is demanding hefty spousal and child support.

She also sued him for fraud in October, before he hit back with his own suit the following month.

Karnivool Cancel All Shows Outside Western Australia http://www.noise11.com/news/karnivool-cancel-all-shows-outside-western-australia-20210225 Thu, 25 Feb 2021 04:26:52 +0000 http://www.noise11.com/?p=161155 Karnivool have been forced to cancel their ‘The Decade of Sound Awake’ tour but will work on a live stream to make up for it.

The post Karnivool Cancel All Shows Outside Western Australia appeared first on Noise11.com.

Karnivool have been forced to cancel their ‘The Decade of Sound Awake’ tour but will work on a live stream to make up for it.

The show was to mark the 10th anniversary of the second Karnivool album ‘Sound Awake’ which is now edging towards 12 years.

‘Sound Awake’ was released on 5 June 2009. It reached no 2 in Australia. The last Karnivool album was ‘Asymmetry’ in 2013.

STATEMENT FROM KARNIVOOL:

We are sick to our stomachs to announce all Decade of Sound Awake shows outside of Western Australia have to be cancelled.

When we were forced to move the tour for a second time, we were optimistic that shows would be able to proceed normally, safely and in the way we had envisioned them. With further rounds of border closures, limited capacities and other show restrictions it is clearly, regrettably, no longer viable to put on the events we want and you deserve for holding onto your ticket for all this time!

This album means so much to us and the tour warrants full production, epic visuals and sweaty singalongs, things that just cannot happen in the middle of a pandemic. Believe us, we have looked at more options than an Aldi shopper.

The sold out Fremantle shows can and will happen, albeit in a slightly altered format on March 12 & 13.

In response to cancelling the East Coast shows, we are going to be presenting a live stream event of the Decade of Sound Awake which means folks in the rest of the world will get to see the show as well.

For everyone at the East Coast shows, your ticket agency will be in contact with your refunds.

Live stream tickets will go on sale soon.

Please accept our unreserved and heartfelt apology we could not make this tour possible, we honestly tried everything we could and hope to make it up to everyone in the future

Until then, stay safe and stay well.

Paul McCartney will publish a hard cover book of his lyrics in November. ‘The Lyrics 1956 to Present’ is two volumes and 154 McCartney song lyrics from all stages of his career.

The a statement Paul said, “More often than I can count, I’ve been asked if I would write an autobiography, but the time has never been right. The one thing I’ve always managed to do, whether at home or on the road, is to write new songs. I know that some people, when they get to a certain age, like to go to a diary to recall day-to-day events from the past, but I have no such notebooks. What I do have are my songs, hundreds of them, which I’ve learned serve much the same purpose. And these songs span my entire life.”

McCartney has chosen 154 songs to tell the story of his life. The songs range from Beatles to Wings to solo.

Band on the Run Paul McCartney

The book will be presented with a treasure trove of material from McCartney’s personal archive – drafts, letters, photographs – never seen before, which make this also a unique visual record of one of the greatest songwriters of all time.

Paul Muldoon pieced together the story. He says, “based on conversations I had with Paul McCartney over a five year period, these commentaries are as close to an autobiography as we may ever come. His insights into his own artistic process confirm a notion at which we had but guessed — that Paul McCartney is a major literary figure who draws upon, and extends, the long tradition of poetry in English.”

‘The Lyrics 1956 to the Present’ will ship on 2 November 2021.

Bruce Springsteen’s DUI charge has been dropped but the singer has still copped at $500 fine and $40 in court costs for drinking in a public space.

Springsteen was charged back in November 2020 of driving under the influence. After admitting he had two shots of tequila in a 20-minute period he was given the fine instead.

When Springsteen was found guilty of the lesser offence the judge said, “Mr Springsteen, I need to know how long you need to pay that fine.”

“I think I can pay that immediately, your honour,” Springsteen answered.

News of the charge game just after a Jeep ad starring Springsteen aired at the Super Bowl. Jeep removed the ad after the charges were made public.

This week it was announced Bruce Springsteen and Barack Obama have made a podcast together. It is streaming on Spotify.

Marti Pellow of Wet Wet Wet left the band in July 2017, to focus on his solo career, and he’s announced his first solo studio effort since March 2017’s ‘Mysterious’ and given fans a taste of what’s to come with the lead single, ‘These Are The Days’.

He said of the LP: “I believe ‘Stargazer’ is about imagination, every day is a school day in songwriting, and that’s what this album took me back to. It was a big learning process.”

On the uplifting ballad, he added: “‘These Are The Days’ lyrics have really found their place in the world right now. They’re about growing up, me and my mates, just running about the streets, not a care in the world, those formative years, helping you become the man you become. I love the simplicity of it.”

The 55-year-old singer recorded the LP in Monnow Valley, Wales, as a live “stream-of-consciousness” in two or three takes.

A press release states that the likes of David Bowie, Harry Nilsson, Curtis Mayfield and John Lennon inspired ‘Stargazer’.

Announcing his departure from Wet Wet Wet four years ago, Pellow tweeted: “Hi all, wanted you to know for foreseeable future I’ll be concentrating on my solo work, am excited by the future and seeing you out there x (sic)”

Pellow was the lead singer the group – also comprised of Tommy Cunningham and Neile Mitchell – for more than three decades, but admitted his “heart and soul” is no longer into it.

He explained at the time: “When I started in Wet Wet Wet I gave it 100% of my heart and soul and that’s what it demands and that is also what the fans demand – and if I can’t do that because my focus is elsewhere, then this is not fair on the fans or the rest of the guys in the band.”

Pellow insisted there are no bad feelings and he will always look back fondly on his time in the group.

He said: “I will be spending more time on my solo work – performing concerts, acting and my own songwriting – as an artist I feel a lot more settled in this world. I have had a great time and loved my career with Wet Wet Wet and to me they will always be the best band in the world.

Pellow previously quit the group in 1999 after battling with a heroin addiction.

Billie Eilish had previously revealed her brother and collaborator, Finneas, got her into The Strokes, and she has once again heaped praise on the New York indie group’s music and the songwriting talent of their lead singer.

Billie Eilish revealed she would listen to their latest album, 2020’s ‘The New Abnormal’, on repeat while bike riding.

Speaking to The New York Times newspaper for their ‘My Ten’ series, she said: “When I first found the album, I was going on a lot of bike rides.

“I would play the whole album on my speaker backpack and ride around random neighbourhoods, and it was always sunny and breezy and pretty and green.

“Julian Casablancas is just a genius — every time I hear his lyrics I think, ‘I would never think to say that’. That’s what I love about them — they’re so unexpected, but also relatable. Every single song is good.”

Elsewhere, the Grammy-winner spilled that her idol Frank Ocean’s acclaimed 2016 LP ‘Blonde’ helps her relax.

She said: “When I had a plaster mould made of my head for a photo shoot for the cover of Garage magazine a few years ago, I played Frank Ocean the entire hour so I wouldn’t have a panic attack.

“I haven’t gotten to meet him, but I don’t expect him to ever even come near me. He can stay being God up in the clouds.”

Meanwhile, Billie is preparing for the premiere of her Apple TV+ documentary, ‘Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry’, this week.

A press release states that the R.J. Cutler-helmed documentary “tells the true coming-of-age story of the singer-songwriter and her rise to global superstardom … the documentary offers a deeply intimate look at this extraordinary teenager’s journey, at just 17 years old, navigating life on the road, on stage, and at home with her family, while writing, recording and releasing her debut album ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?'”

Richard Clapton is reactivating in 2021 with a new album and live dates.

‘Music Is Love (1966-1977) is Richard’s tribute to the artists he listened to in the 60s.
The songs of Neil Young, The Byrds, CSNY, Bob Dylan, The Doors and The Lovin’ Spoonful helped form Clapton’s musical DNA.

“These songs are where I came from,” Richard explains. The first taste of the album is John Sebastian’s Lovin’ Spoonful classic ‘Summer In The City’.
“John Sebastian was, and is, amazing. Doing this vocal nearly killed me – I’ve never done a song before with no breath at all! What a song. It’s been with me all my life.”

‘Music Is Love (1966-1970)’ will be released 9 April. The title is a David Crosby song. “To me, that song sums up the album,” Richard says. “Music is love.”

Music Is Love (1966 – 1970) tracklisting:
1. Get Together
2. So You Want To Be A Rock ‘n’ Roll Star
3. Summer In The City
4. Love The One You’re With
5. Riders On The Storm
6. Eight Miles High
7. For What It’s Worth (Hey, What’s That Sound)
8. Woodstock
9. Casey Jones
10. Almost Cut My Hair
11. Cinnamon Girl
12. Music Is Love
13. Southern Man
14. Midnight Rider
15. I Shall Be Released

Richard Clapton will perform 13 March at Crown, Melbourne and 14 March at the Caravan Club, Archie’s Creek.

After a few false starts leading to two shows being rescheduled because of Covid lockdowns, Debra Byrne and Dion Hirini will start their Victorian season in Kyneton on Saturday.

The origins of ‘An Intimate and Up-Close Performance with Debra Byrne & Dion Hirrini’ date back to the 90s when Debra was asked to open for country supergroup The Highwaymen. The Highwaymen were Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Waylon Jennings.

“One of the highlights of my career was to be the support act for The Highwaymen. It was an extraordinary experience and it reignited a dream that I could perform the songs closest to my heart. I had been performing in musical theatre and though I loved the chance to bring characters to life through song, the lack of freedom to change was always a challenge for me,” Debra said in a statement.

Debra Byrne and Dion Hirini will perform Saturday 27 February at the Bluestone Theatre in Kyneton.

They will also perform at the Clock Tower Theatre at Moonee Ponds in 13 March.

The shows in Colac and Plenty Ranges postponed due to Covid lockdowns will be rescheduled.

You Am I have been busy knocking out a new album. The first taste of what is to come is a song called ‘The Waterboy’, inspired by a song from The Waterboys.

“On the Waterboys album Modern Blues I found a Mike Scott song called I Can See Elvis. It just killed me, I couldn’t stop listening to it. Mike is a big-hearted person, he really puts it all out there and I like that. I was on the New South Wales south coast listening to a Scottish guy living in Ireland singing about Elvis and that led to the four places line.”

To create the song in lockdown Tim Rogers first sent what he had to guitarist Davey Lane. Lane and Rogers live in Melbourne. The other two members Andy Kent and Russell Hopkinson live in Sydney. They couldn’t meet so Rogers and Lane sent what they collaborated on onto the Sydneysiders who recorded their parts in a Sydney studio and sent them back to the Melbournians.

You Am I will reactivate for a show at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney on 15 April.

Andy Kent concurs: “The Enmore Theatre stage holds some very special memories for us as a band. So to be able to put 2020 well behind us all and step back out there to share a night of loud rock and roll with our strong, faithful and beautiful audience is something we are very much looking forward to. GBTFLoU!”

The Band’s 1968 ‘Music From Big Pink’ was a life-changing recording for Australian singer songwriter Brian Cadd. After hearing an early preview of the album in London in early 1968 Brian’s songwriting changed forever.

“It was mostly because of the extraordinary experience Ronnie Charles and I had in London,” Brian Cadd tells Noise11.com. “We were with The Easybeats in their flat in Earl’s Court and they had a night off. When they had a night off they used to bring their PA, their sound system home and set it up in the Living Room. The neighbours must have been deaf. At around three o’clock in the morning we were all extraordinarily untidy and there was a knock on the door. It was one of the roadies for Cream, the Eric Clapton band. He had just returned from America and he was waving their quarter inch tape saying ‘you have got to listen to this. This is it. Music will never be the same again’. He put it on. He only had the first side, 5 or 6 songs. I think Ronnie and I left about 9am”.

That first side of ‘Music From Big Pink’ ended with ‘The Weight’. The album also featured ‘Tears of Rage’ written with Bob Dylan. “We just played that tape over and over and over,” Brian says. “It changed my life forever. There was all that time up to that moment and all that time after that moment. It affected me enormously as a writer.

What followed for Cadd were songs like ‘Arkansas Grass’, a song about the American Civil War. “It gave me the freedom to write stories as stories,” he says. “It gave me the chance to write about other people. I could make up scenarios just like The Band. They had all these characters that seemed to come from the Civil War. It was one of those things back in the day with the candles out and the incense burning in The Easybeats apartment. You saw the Confederate soldiers and you saw the croppers. The pictures were so extraordinary. It affected me like that”.

Brian Cadd will perform three shows in Victoria this weekend:

26 February, Macedon, Railway Hotel
27 February, Brunswick, Brunswick Ballroom
28 February, Archies Creek, Archies Creek Hotel

Amy Shark’s new song ‘Love Songs Ain’t For Us’ features Keith Urban and was written with Ed Sheeran.

Sheeran wrote the song after Amy told him she had never written a love song for her husband Shane Billings. “Ed asked me if I wrote songs about my man, I told him I do, but love songs aren’t really for us. He then smiled and said, “ok that’s what we’ll do then”. This song is as loved up as you’ll get from me and I love it.”

Keith Urban has been living in Australia since the early days of Covid so he was around for the recording of the song. “The song is so classy and timeless I needed to find a class act to join me. Keith is so professional and well respected around the world, so it was a no brainer,” Amy said.

The song will feature on Amy’s upcoming album ‘Cry Forever’. Amy will tour Australia in June and July 2021.

Dee Snider of Twisted Sister has hit out at the illustrious establishment and accused them of looking down on “metal” and “other bands”.

Snider’s snide remarks were in response to a Twitter follower asking why the likes of Iron Maiden would refuse to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

He fumed: “The RnR Hall committee members are arrogant elitist arseholes who look down on metal & other bands that sell millions because we’re not their definition of cool. The fan vote is their “throwing a bone” to the peasants. I want to say FU, but I want them to have to deal with us! (sic)”

He also told another follower, who insisted they “cater to the masses”, that: “If they were catering to the masses they would have the biggest selling bands. Corporate rock bands that sell tens of millions are ignored because they aren’t “cool”. The fact is the RnR Hall of Fame is struggling. Was it crowded when you were there? It wasn’t when I went. (sic)”

Iron Maiden are among the nominees this year, but, in 2018, frontman Bruce Dickinson insisted he would refuse the honour if they rockers were ever chosen.

He said: “I’m really happy we’re not there and I would never want to be there. If we’re ever inducted, I will refuse — they won’t be having my corpse in there.”

The likes of Foo Fighters, New York Dolls, Kate Bush and Carole King are among the nominees this year.

Bruce Springsteen and former U.S. leader Barack Obama have teamed up to launch a podcast series.

Renegades: Born in the USA will feature the rocker and the politician in conversation, covering fatherhood, the state of America, and race issues over eight episodes.

It marks the second original podcast from Obama’s Higher Ground Productions, which launched with Michelle Obama’s hit podcast.

The new show debuted on Spotify on Monday.

“How did we get here? How could we find our way back to a more unifying American story? That topic came to dominate so many of my conversations last year – with Michelle, with my daughters and with friends,” Obama says in the opening episode. “And one of the friends just happened to be Mr. Bruce Springsteen.

“On the surface, Bruce and I don’t have a lot in common. But over the years, what we’ve found is that we’ve got a shared sensibility. About work, about family and about America. In our own ways, Bruce and I have been on parallel journeys trying to understand this country that’s given us both so much. Trying to chronicle the stories of its people. Looking for a way to connect our own individual searches for meaning and truth and community with the larger story of America.”

Mick Jagger, reads from WH Auden’s poem ‘For Friends Only’ in the 90-second clip titled ‘Your Room Will Be Ready’, which is an emotional watch for music lovers amid the COVID-19 pandemic, as it shows both the legendary London venue empty and filled to the brim with fans.

The concert hall holds special memories for the ‘Satisfaction’ hitmakers, who have played the venue four times, including in September 1963, when they shared a bill with The Beatles.

Jagger commented: “Without doubt the Royal Albert Hall is one of the greatest concert venues in the world and so I was delighted to be asked to read a short poem by W.H. Auden as part of this excellent short film by Tom Harper.

“I have some wonderful memories of performing there with The Stones in the 1960s when once or twice it did get a bit wild, with enthusiastic fans joining us onstage and almost bringing the show to an abrupt end – but we soldiered on and had a great time.

“I would like to take this opportunity to wish the Royal Albert Hall a very happy 150th birthday and look forward to the future, seeing and listening to many fantastic artists and musicians performing onstage at this iconic venue.’’

The Tom Harper-helmed clip also includes more than 40 pieces of concert archive footage dating back to 1933, some never-before-seen, including performances by the likes of Dame Shirley Bassey, Diana Ross, Noel Gallagher, the late George Michael, Freddie Mercury and Luciano Pavarotti, and Stormzy and Wizkid.

Harper added: “I have desperately missed live performance – there is something electric and fundamentally human about the shared experience of being in a room surrounded by other people, part of an audience. The Royal Albert Hall is a magnificent building even when it’s empty, but what makes it truly special is the connection it fosters through those shared experiences. That is what this film is about; not only a celebration of performances from the Hall’s glorious past, but also the sense of anticipation of some of the things to look forward to when we can be together again.”

The previously unseen footage includes clips of Creedence Clearwater Revival and the late Jimi Hendrix and Chris Cornell.

The film was recorded at Dire Straits legend Mark Knopfler’s British Grove Studios, and features an original score by Tippett Quartet, flautist Eliza Marshall and BBC Symphony Orchestra principal trumpet Philip Cobb.

Composer Steven Price added: “It was a huge honour to reunite with Tom Harper to make this short film, which takes us from the empty corridors of the last months to the joy of the Hall at its glorious best. I can’t wait to be back, listening, laughing, celebrating and experiencing everything the Hall has to offer.”

For the intimate rendition of ‘Holy’, the pop superstar sang surrounded by candles in a bar setting.

The Grammy-winner then appeared on a faux road in the middle of the desert for ‘Lonely’, before he wrapped with an electronic-tinged spin on ‘Anyone’ with his band performed from a VR platform surrounded by mountains.

Justin commented: “I want to thank my friends at Spotify for asking me to perform exclusively at Stream On. This event is a first, so I wanted to do something I hadn’t done before with this special version of ‘Lonely’.

I’m always inspired by creativity, and Spotify ‘Stream On’ shared some incredible conversations on the vision for the future.”

The likes of J Balvin, Jemele Hill, Khalid, BLACKPINK, FINNEAS and Billie Eilish, Ava DuVernay, Halsey, Lauv, Bruce Springsteen, and even President Barack Obama also appeared.

The streaming giant’s ‘Stream On’ series is about “exploring the power of audio creation”.

Justin’s performance came after he made history as the first artist in the world to play a TikTok concert.

Bieber performed songs from his 2013 digital-only compilation album ‘Journals’ as part of the ‘Journals Live From The Drew House’ live-stream on Valentine’s Day (14.02.21).

He said: “I’m excited to bring this show to life. ‘Journals’ is one of my favourite projects and I’ve never performed it live. I’m grateful to TikTok for helping me to bring this show to everyone on Valentine’s Day.”

Meanwhile, Justin recently gave an update on the progress of his sixth studio album.

The 26-year-old superstar shared snaps from the studio across Instagram and teased fans that he’s got to the stage of picking the track-listing for the LP.

Alongside one picture of him staring at sheets of paper, he wrote: “going over track listing for the album. (sic)’

He also captioned a black and white shot of him with his mouth wide open: “how this album makes me feel (sic).”

Justin released his most recent record, ‘Changes’, last February, before he kicked off his “new era” with ‘Holy’, ‘Lonely’ and ‘Anyone’.

Stream Justin’s full ‘Stream On’ performance over on Spotify’s official YouTube channel.

‘The Greatest Showman’ director Michael Gracey is set to helm ‘Better Man’, a coming of age about Robbie Williams’ unlikely rise to stardom.

The flick will tell the story of Williams’ ascent to fame, exploring the experiences that made him who he is and the demons he battled on and off stage as he became a huge star on the back of hits with Take That and solo success.

Michael has penned the script for the project with Oliver Cole and Simon Gleeson. He is also producing with Jules Daly and Craig McMahon with production slated to begin this summer. Robbie’s hit songs are part of the film’s package.

Gracey revealed that the movie came about after hours of conversations with Robbie although he remained tight-lipped on how the singer would be represented on the big screen.

The filmmaker told Deadline: “As for how we represent Robbie in the film, that bit is top secret.

“I want to do this in a really original way. I remember going to the cinema as a kid and there were films that blew me away and made me say as I sat there in the cinema,’ I’ve never seen this before.’ I just want the audience to have that feeling.

“All I can say is that the approach is top secret, but the goal is to generate that feeling I just described. It’s this fantastical story, and I want to represent it in its harsh reality all the way to these moments of pure fantasy.”

Robbie first became famous as a teenager in Take That but after quitting the boy band in 1995 his career really soared as a solo artist with hits such as ‘Angels’, ‘Rock DJ’ and ‘Let Me Entertain You’ and Michael is keen to chronicle the story of an “everyman”.

He explained: “Unlike some people who were born prodigies or musical geniuses and you follow the narrative of the world catching up to their brilliance, this isn’t that story.

“Robbie is that everyman, who just dreamed big and followed those dreams and they took him to an incredible place. Because of that, his is an incredibly relatable story. He’s not the best singer, or dancer, and yet, he managed to sell 80 million records worldwide.”

Alice Cooper has revealed to Noise11 that Mae West once asked him to “come up and see her sometime” but he rejected her offer. However, Keith Moon went through with it.

Alice Cooper and Keith Moon starred with the Vaudeville legend in the 1977 movie ‘Sextet’.

“Mae West and I did this movie called ‘Sextet’,” Alice Cooper tells Noise11.com. “She did this play in 1925 and was put in jail for it. It was too racy. When she got to jail it was all painted pink, they had a double bed in there. I think she spent one night in jail. So now she wants to redo it and the cast is Ringo (Starr), Keith Moon, Alice Cooper, (Timothy) Dalton the guy who played James Bond, and I played an Italian waiter who does a song with her. We are all having lunch one day and I said ‘guys, this is weird. I got done with the song and she whispered in my ear “why don’t you come on back to my trailer”. And I’m going ‘well, because you’re 86 and I’m not sure if you’re a woman’. She said ‘oh I’m all woman’. Everybody said ‘she came onto me too’. We all went around the table and it got to Keith Moon and we all looked at him and went ‘no’. And he says ‘well, how many chances do you get to be with Mae West’.

When Alice started performing his shock horror show in the 70s, some of Vaudeville’s biggest stars would come and see him. “That’s how Groucho Marx saw the show. Groucho Marx would bring Fred Astaire, Mae West, Jack Benny, all these great Vaudeville artists would come to see our show,” Alice says. ‘They would go ‘oh yeah, I get it’. They were not thrown off by the shock value of it because when they saw the guillotine, the snake, those were all Vaudeville bits. Except we put them in Rock and Roll and it was a new form of Vaudeville. Now when Salvador Dali saw the show he saw it as surrealism. He’d say ‘Oh Alice Cooper, he is like a Dali painting. It is absurd and it comes to life’. It depended on who you were and how you saw the show. Some people saw it as a horror show, some people saw it as comedy, some people saw it as hard rock. I wanted that show to be fairly indefinable. You really couldn’t put it in a box’.

Alice Cooper’s new album Detroit Stories is out 26 February 2021.

1. Rock & Roll
2. Go Man Go (Album Version)
3. Our Love Will Change The World

Daft Punk Split At 28 Years http://www.noise11.com/news/daft-punk-split-at-28-years-20210223 Tue, 23 Feb 2021 00:53:48 +0000 http://www.noise11.com/?p=161095 After 28 years Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo have decided to split up as Daft Punk.

After 28 years Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo have decided to split up as Daft Punk.

The duo took to YouTube to visualise the split with a near eight minute video where they literally disintegrate Daft Punk.

Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo formed Daft Punk in Paris in 1993. They released four studio albums ‘Homework’ (1997), ‘Discovery’ (2001), ‘Human After All’ (2005) and ‘Random Access Memories’ (2013), two live albums ‘Alive 1997’ (2001) and ‘Alive 2007’ (2007) and one soundtrack ‘Tron: Legacy’ (2010).

In Australia their first Top 40 hit was ‘Da Funk’ (no 31, 1995).

Next came ‘Around the World’ (no 11, 1997)

Then ‘One More Time’ (no 10, 2000)

The big one happened in 2013 when Daft Punk teamed with Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers for ‘Get Lucky’.

The fourth Daft Punk album ‘Random Access Memories’ was their biggest album reaching number one in the USA, UK, and Australia.

Fun fact: The last track on ‘Random Access Memories’ titled ‘Contact’ sampled Australian band Sherbet (known as Sherbs) with their song ‘We Ride Tonight’. Sherbet’s Daryl Braithwaite, Garth Porter and Tony Mitchell are co-credited as songwriters on the Daft Punk album.

John Mayall and the Eric Clapton Connection http://www.noise11.com/news/john-mayall-and-the-eric-clapton-connection-20210223 Mon, 22 Feb 2021 18:45:09 +0000 http://www.noise11.com/?p=161108 John Mayall recruited the then unknown Eric Clapton to join his influential group John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers in 1965.

John Mayall recruited the then unknown Eric Clapton to join his influential group John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers in 1965.

Over the years, the band featured the likes of the late Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie of Fleetwood Mac and former Rolling Stones strummer Mick Taylor and inspired a whole generation of blues and rock legends.
Mayall, dubbed ‘The Godfather of British Blues’, insists the most important thing to him is being an authentic artist rather than chasing fame and he has always been happy for Clapton regarding his many achievements in the music business.

When asked if he had ever envied Clapton, Mayall said: “I don’t think it really works that way. You do what’s natural to you and see if it works for the public in the same way it does for you.”

Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, he continued: “My philosophy has always been to work as honestly as I can with the kind of music that was natural to me so to put those songs into words, it’s a great feeling to have had that freedom.”

Clapton quit the Bluesbreakers in July 1966 and was replaced by Green. He was then invited by late drummer Ginger Baker to play in his new group Cream, the now-iconic band which also featured former Bluesbreakers member Jack Bruce.

Before Cream, Clapton was not well known in America, and had left his other group, The Yardbirds, before their track ‘For Your Love’ hit the US top 10.

Mayall also insisted he would never work with just any musician and is very selective when it comes to his collaborators.

Mayall said: “You know you do something which is natural to you and natural to the musicians you are working with. I don’t think there’s been any point in my career where I’ve ended up sticking with someone I wasn’t really fully into … I’ve had total freedom really; I think one of the good things about being a bandleader is you get to choose who you want to work with.”

Mayall – who was awarded an OBE in 2005 for being a pioneer of blues music – also admitted music has always been a source of “improvisation and exploration” for him since he was a child.

He said: “I don’t think anybody really knows what draws them into any kind of music. I think it was a good thing for me to find something I was attracted to. It’s not just blues. It’s jazz. It’s the whole thing. It’s the improvisation and it’s the exploration through music and the feelings.”

‘John Mayall: The First Generation’ – a 35 CD limited edition box set – is out now via Madfish Records through Snapper Music.

Gary Barlow and Peter Andre have teamed during the online ‘Crooner Sessions’ virtual gigs last year and he revealed he is not only encouraged him to start working on new material, but he’s also involved with his plans.

Writing in his new! magazine column, said: “I did a Q&A on my YouTube channel and was asked what made me decide to get back in the studio and actually stick to it.

“Randomly, I got the push from two people. One was Junior telling me to write something cool, current, and fresh.
“The other was Gary Barlow. Gary and I did one of his ‘Crooner Sessions’ last year in the first lockdown and afterwards I sent him songs I had written and he basically told me to get my bum back in the studio and release some music.

“So now I’m working on two projects – one album that I plan to release soon, and another separate project with Gary. Watch this space!”

Peter’s eldest son, 15-year-old Junior – who he has with ex-wife Katie Price – has also been joining his dad in the studio.

He added: “Things are coming together in the studio and I’m working hard to get the album I want.
“Junior has been in with me at weekends and he’s really enjoying the experience.”

Meanwhile, after contracting coronavirus last month, the 47-year-old singer is finally feeling back to full health.

He said: “I’m finally managing to run now without getting out of breath following my recovery from coronavirus.

“Only two weeks ago I was getting puffed out on a simple bike ride.”
