AC/DC Coins Create an eBay Goldmine

by Paul Cashmere on October 29, 2018

in News

Recently released AC/DC coins from the Royal Australian Mint have turned up in alarming numbers for sale at inflated prices on eBay.

The two AC/DC coins, released on October 2, 2018 retailed for $15 for the 50 cent coin and $130 for the $5 collectible.

The 50 cent coin is currently being sold on eBay for up to $160 and the $5 coin is hitting the $500 mark.

When the Royal Australian Mint announced the collectible coins on 2 October they sold out within 48 hours. Now it seems that the purchasers were mainly scalpers who are now turning a quick profit.

The timing of the release of the AC/DC coins seemed strange as it didn’t match any particular benchmark. The Royal Australian Mint basically said it marked the band’s 45th anniversary but a 45th is hardly an anniversary many celebrate for anything.

AC/DC also released a stamp series in Australia in July so it appears the merch department of AC/DC Corp may just be active this year. The stamp series seemed to be thrown together without a lot of thought. The stamps matched the US editions of AC/DC releases, not the Australian releases.

James Taylor Farewells Australia With Final Tour (Melbourne Review)

I could go to a James Taylor show just for the stories. The man is a part of music history and is still around to tell the tales of how it all began. Like, for instance, being the first artist signed to Apple Records. James “auditioned” for Apple with his song ‘Something In The Way She Moves’. "Paul went away and started the label and George went away and wrote the song”, he said.
