Katy Perry is at No.1 for a ninth week with her smash song “Roar”, and in doing so she becomes the female artist with the longest run at the top of the Australian charts this decade, plus she is now tied in second place alongside LMFAO’s “Sexy & I Know it” as the second longest run for the decade (so far). Party Rock Anthem by LAMFAO is the longest at ten weeks.

The last female artist to spend nine weeks at the top of the ARIA Singles Chart was Fergie with “Big Girls Don’t Cry” (16-July to 10-Sep-2007), plus Katy is up to number thirty-two on the list of ‘Accumulated Weeks at No.1: 1940-2013’, as she has now notched up nineteen weeks in total at No.1 in Australia, edging just ahead of The Rolling Stones who were on eighteen accumulated weeks.

And with Katy in the country this coming week on a promo tour for her new album Prism (out Friday 25th Oct) she could retain the top spot for another week or two, as her next possible competition is going to be from the X-Factor winner which will have their single out on the 1st of November (next Friday), as this week contender Taylor Henderson debuts at No.2 with his rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s March 1984 No.1 song “Girls Just Want to Have Fun”. This also becomes the first X-Factor contestant for 2013 to make it into the Top 10, and the first since Samantha Jade took her debut single “What You’ve Done to Me” straight in at No.1 after her win in 2012.

Avicii leapt to No.2 last week with “Hey Brother”, which this week gets pushed down a place to No.3, but has now been certified Gold (●) in sales, and Pitbull and Ke$ha climb up a couple of places to No.4 with “Timber” which becomes Pit’s eighth Top 5 entry, whilst Miley stays stable at No.5 with “Wrecking Ball”.

Nathaniel and “You” drops two places to No.6, but the song is now certified Gold (●) in sales, with James Blunt falling four to No.7 with “Bonfire Heart” now that people are buying his new album “Moon Landing” which debuted at No.2 this week. Jason DeRulo is up a place to a new peak of No.8 with “Marry Me” and up seven places to No.9 and landing in the Top 10 for the first time are Norway’s Ylvis with “The Fox” (now Gold ●), which is the first Norwegian act since M2M in January 2000 with “Don’t Say You Love Me” (HP-4) to crack the Top 10. Lastly Imagine Dragons, who are touring here and appeared on X-Factor during the week, leap back up twenty-seven places to No.10 with “On Top of the World”, becoming their second Top 10 single in the process.

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: After a full week of sales, “Rap God” by Eminem leaps up twenty-five spots to No.15, instantly becoming his third Top 20 single from the forthcoming “Marshall Mathers 2 LP”. Vance Joy climbs back up five places to No.16 with “Riptide”, with another local, Havana Brown, up a couple of places to a new peak of No.22 with “Warrior”. Haim pick up a ▲ Platinum certification for the stable “The Wire” at No.23, whilst Lorde is back up a place to No.28 with “Team” which picks up a Gold ● accreditation. The only other new peak within the Top 50 is Ellie Goulding whose theme from ‘About Time’ entitled “How Long Will I Love You” is up seventeen places to No.46.

DOWN DOWN: After three weeks within the Top 10, “Pop a Bottle (Fill Me Up)” (HP-2) for Jessica Mauboy is down three places to No.11 and after five weeks within the ten, Drake is down a couple of places to No.12 with “Hold On, We’re Going Home” (HP-8). The third drop-out is the former No.1 “Let’s Get Ridiculous” for Redfoo which plummets eighteen places to No.25 after spending the past six weeks within the ten. After peaking at No.11 last week, Zedd and Hayley Williams fall back six places to No.17 and after entering at No.22 last week, the new James Arthur track “You’re Nobody ‘til Somebody Loves You” drops back five spots to No.27. Britney Spears is down seven places to No.34 with “Work Bitch” and after a couple of weeks at No.33; “Bring it Back” for Will Sparks & Joel Fletcher is down to No.35 (both now Gold ●). Capital Cities fall ten places to No.36 with “Safe & Sound”, and Eminem’s “Survival” falls back twenty-three places to No.41. “Burn” for Ellie Goulding falls thirteen places to No.43 (both Burn and Bonfire Heart are not receiving as much airplay in Sydney due to the fires), with Zedd’s first hit “Clarity” down ten spots to No.49 this week.

X-FACTOR: This coming week is the Grand Finale for the 2013 series, and Taylor’s debut at No.2 this week is the highest entry from this weeks performances. Other new entries for this week include “Wrecking Ball” at No.61 and “Saving All My Love for You” at No.85 both by Dami Im, with Jai Waetford new at No.89 with his version of “Dynamite” and Taylor landing a second new entry at No.90 with “Against All Odds”. Eliminated act Third D3gree debuts at No.96 with the Nicki Minaj track “Pound the Alarm”.

After a few days of sales, Lady GaGa scores her second entry from the forthcoming ArtPop album by debuting at No.21 with “Do What U Want” featuring R. Kelly as guest vocalist on the track. She is also charting with “Applause” (HP-11) which is down a couple of places to No.54 this week.

Two of the three acts who performed on this week’s X-Factor show see debuts within the Top 40, alongside an Australia’s Got Talent act. Little Mix enters at No.33 after their promo tour and XF gig with “Move”, becoming their fifth chart entry and fifth Top 50 appearance. Tina Arena debuts at No.38 with “You Set Fire to My Life” from this week’s new No.4 album “Reset”. This becomes Tina’s nineteenth chart entry since her first entry in January 1986 (‘Turn Up the Beat’ HP-92) and her first Top 40 hit since November 2004’s “Italian Love Song” (HP-33). Uncle Jed appeared on the A.G.T. semi finals this week, and their rendition of Ed Sheeran’s “Give Me Love” enters at No.39, whilst their former entry of Matt Corby’s “Brother” (HP-53) is back in at No.68.

Local female artist (now UK based) Iggy Azalea and T.I. debut at No.44 with her current UK Top 10 single “Change Your Life” which becomes her second entry here after “Work” (HP-88) from April this year. This weeks Justin Bieber release is entitled “Hold Tight” and it enters at No.48, whilst an X-Factor performance of Jason Mraz’s “I Won’t Give Up” sees the original return at No.50.

Lower 50: Classified and Olly Murs jump up twenty-two places to No.60 with “Inner Ninja” (last week I said Classified was British, sorry he’s actually Canadian) and new Gold (●) tracks in the lower fifty include Macklemore & Ryan Lewis with “White Walls”, “Animals” for Martin Garrix and Kodaline with “High Hopes”, whilst “What Now” for Rihanna has turned Platinum (▲).

With Imagine Dragons touring the country at the moment, their first Top 10 hit “Radioactive” climbs back up ten places to No.45, plus they also debut with their fourth chart entry “Demons” at No.53. Justin Bieber appears on the new Tyga track “Wait for a Minute” which is new at No.74 and becomes his third chart entry, with another duet new at No.77 for Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger with “Let Me Go”, the third single from her new self-titled fifth album which is out next week.

Three local acts make up the last few entries this week; with X-Factor 2012 contestant Bella Ferraro entering at No.75 entitled “Forgot You”, which becomes her seventh chart entry if you include her X-F entries from last year. Sydney group The Jezabels debut at No.81 with their third singles chart entry “The End”, whilst the final new entry is in at No.84, The Amity Affliction with their version of Lana Del Rey’s track “Born to Die”, becoming their second singles chart entry, as back in August 2012 they spent one week on the charts at #100 with “Chasing Ghosts”.
