Katy Perry is spending a seventh week at the top of the ARIA Singles Chart with her smash song “Roar”, making it the second longest running No.1 of 2013 behind Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” at eight weeks.

It also gives Katy an accumulated total at the top of the Australian charts of seventeen weeks, moving her from 44th to equal 36th on the list of ‘Accumulated Weeks at No.1: Singles (1940 – 2013)’ alongside Ke$ha and The Platters who have also notched up seventeen weeks at the top with three chart-topping singles. Plus the last female to spend this long at the top of the ARIA Singles chart was (lead) Adele with “Someone Like You” (from 27-June-11) or (guest) Kimbra on the Gotye track “Somebody That I Used to Know” (from 15-Aug-11) which were back to back No.1’s here. If Katy stays for an eighth week, she will achieve the longest run at the top this decade by a female artist.

Miley Cyrus moves back up to No.2 for a third week with “Wrecking Ball” helped by her new album “Bangerz” debuting at No.1, with Redfoo and “Let’s Get Ridiculous” moving back up to No.3, displacing last weeks No.2 debut of “Pop a Bottle (Fill Me Up)” for Jessica Mauboy down to No.4, but the track achieves Gold (●) in sales this week.

James Blunt appeared on X-Factor last week, and this has helped boost his new single “Bonfire Heart” which leaps up seventy places to No.5, whilst also returning his biggest hit “You’re Beautiful” (HP-2, peaked Nov 2005) back into the charts at No.91. This effect can also be seen for Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” (now 6x▲ Platinum) which was sung by Taylor on the show, returning the former No.1 back into the Top 10 at No.7, up four places from last week, whilst the shows 2012’s sixth placed contestant Nathaniel Willemse, who sang his debut single “You” on the show, sees it debut at No.9 to claim the highest Top 100 entry of the week.

With “Royals” by Lorde at No.1 in the USA and some tracks from her EP “The Love Club” not on her new album “Pure Heroine” (TW-2), plus an X-Factor performance by Jiordan of Royals, this has all helped the EP to climb back up eight places to No.6 this week. Jason DeRulo is down three places to No.8 with “Talk Dirty” (now 3x▲ Platinum), whilst Drake is down one place to No.10 with “Hold On, We’re Going Home”.

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: The official third single from Avicii’s “True” (TW-19) album is “Hey Brother” (former peak #60), which bullets seventy-nine places to No.14 this week, with further leapers behind him in the form of “Marry Me” by Jason DeRulo, up thirteen places to No.15 and “Stay the Night” for Zedd and Hayley Williams, which is up sixteen spots to No.16, whilst also gaining a Top 20 placing this week is Ylvis who are up ten places to No.19 with “The Fox”. Zedd’s first hit “Clarity” rebounds thirteen places to No.24 after being performed by Dami on X-Factor this past week, and Britney Spears’ “Work Bitch” (HP-22) regains a little ground by moving back up to No.27. “Bring it Back” for Will Sparks & Joel Fletcher hit No.36 in September, but this week its back up ten places to land a new peak of No.33, whilst Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are up twelve places to No.34 with “White Walls”, with producer Mike Will Made-it featuring Miley Cyrus, Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J on the track “23”, which is up thirteen spots to a new peak of No.39, whilst Miley is also at No.40 with “We Can’t Stop”.

DOWN DOWN: After four weeks within the Top 10 (three of those at No.6), OneRepublic’s “Something I Need” is down five places to No.11, whilst Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness” (HP-3×2) is down to No.12 after seven weeks inside the ten. John Newman drops eleven places to No.18 with “Love Me Again” (HP-4) (now 2x▲ Platinum) after five weeks within the Top 10 and after returning for a seventh broken week inside the ten, “Acapella” by Karmin drops thirteen places to No.23 this week. Eminem’s “Berzerk” is down five places to No.22, but is now ▲ Platinum in sales, whilst MKTO drop nine spots to No.28 with “Classic”. Flo Rida & Pitbull see their track “Can’t Believe it” fall twelve places to No.35, with Lady GaGa’s “Applause” (now▲ Platinum) down thirteen spots to No.37. Avicii’s “You Make Me” drops sixteen places to No.42 and after debuting at No.38 last week, Illy’s “Youngbloods” is down nineteen places to No.57.

X-FACTOR: As I mentioned above, James Blunt, Lorde, Avicii, Nathaniel Willemse and Zedd with Foxes all benefited from X-Factor performances this past week, so the highest new entry from a show contestant this week is Taylor Henderson at No.49 with his version of “Wake Me Up”, whilst returning to the Top 100 at No.51 is Keane with “Somewhere Only We Know” (former peak of No.62, Sept 2004) with the version by Jai Waetford coming in at No.95. Dami Im’s debut last week at No.15 for “Bridge Over Troubled Water” is down to No.59 this week, with Taylor’s “The Horses” dropping from No.27 to No.64 (Daryl’s version is at No.71), with the next new entry at No.77 for Dami and her version of “Clarity”. Jiordan Tolli is new at No.81 with her version of “Royals”, Third D3gree debut at No.84 with “Pump it” (Black Eyed Peas), with Dami’s “Purple Rain” just hanging on at No.97 this week.

Justin Bieber is going to be releasing a new song every Monday for the next ten weeks until mid-December, and the first of these is “Heartbreaker” which is new at No.30 this week. A few places lower at No.32 is Havana Brown who debuts with the track “Warrior” taken from the just released album “Flashing Lights”.

Lower 50: With the release on DVD and Blu-Ray of ‘Fast & Furious 6’, the big hit from this film “We Own it” (HP-6) by 2 Chainz and Wiz Khalifa returns to the Top 100 at No.58. “Stay” for Rihanna rebounds up twenty places to No.52 this week, and she also debuts with her new track “Pour it Up” at No.55, which features Young Jeezy, Rock Ross, Juicy J & T.I. as guests. Plus RiRi is also charting with “What Now” (TW-36) and “Diamonds” (TW-65) and thanks to her tour here.

The new Pearl Jam album “Lightning Bolt” is out this week, and the second chart entry from the album is new at No.60, “Sirens”, whilst one place lower at No.61 is the second track lifted from Eminem’s “Marshall Mathers 2 LP” entitled “Survival”, which I think contains a sample of Peter Gabriel’s “Games Without Frontiers”, but I haven’t found anything mentioning a sample within the song (maybe it’s just my ears hearing it).

A month ago Coldplay charted with the song “Atlas” (HP-30) which is taken from the forthcoming November released ‘Hunger Games 2’ film and soundtrack. This week a second track from the album enters at No.67; “Elastic Heart” by our own Sia featuring guests The Weeknd and Diplo. The final new entry is at No.87, “Cheating” for John Newman, taken from his just released debut album “Tribute”.
