Not since this time last year has a song spent such a long time at the top of the ARIA Charts, as this week Robin Thicke with T.I. and Pharrell with “Blurred Lines” spends an eighth week at No.1; plus the song is now re-certified 4x▲(Platinum) in sales, that’s 280,000+ in sales so far.

The last song to achieve eight weeks was Flo Rida with “Whistle” (7-May to 2-July-2013), which had a broken run (seven weeks, then back for one more). And if Robin only stays for eight weeks, he will have tied for third place in the ‘Longest Running No.1 this Decade’, as Gotye and Kimbra also spent eight weeks at the top in 2011 with “Somebody That I Used to Know”. Ahead with the longest running No.1’s this decade are two LMFAO songs, “Sexy and I Know it” (9 weeks) and “Party Rock Anthem” (10 weeks).

Blasting up forty places from last weeks debut of No.42 to No.2 this week is Avicii feat Aloe Blacc with “Wake Me Up”, becoming his highest charting single and second successive Top 10 single in the same week, after he and Nicky Romero went to No.4 in early March with “I Could Be the One” which returns at No.82 this week. Jumping up six places each within the Top 10 are Timomatic with “Parachute” (now Gold ●) to No.3 and Olly Murs with “Dear Darlin” to No.4, which equals the peak his first chart entry here achieved last December, “Troublemaker”.

After returning to No.2 last week, Passenger slips down three places to No.5 with “Let Her Go”, Bastille’s pending August tour here helps keep “Pompeii” at No.6 this week and down three places to No.7 are Daft Punk with Pharrell and “Get Lucky”. Jessie J lands her fourth Top 10 single in Australia as her latest track “Wild” (now Gold ●) is up six places to a new peak of No.8, plus it becomes Big Sean’s second Top 10 appearance having previously been here on Justin Bieber’s “As Long as You Love Me” (HP-8, peaked Aug 2012). Imagine Dragons not only land their first Top 10 hit as “Radioactive” is up three places to No.9, but the song also goes ▲ in sales, and returning to the Top 10, back up a place to No.10 is Matt Corby with “Resolution”.

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: OneRepublic move up four places to a new peak of No.12 with “Counting Stars”, and after two weeks at No.26, Miley Cyrus halves her chart position by jumping thirteen places to No.13 with “We Can’t Stop”, possibly helped by the racy new video for the song. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis return to the Top 20 at No.18 with “Wing$”, and the self-titled EP for Sheppard (featuring “Let me Down Easy”) is up six places to a new peak of No.21. Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran move up three places to No.28 with “Everything Has Changed”, whilst Vance Joy leaps up twelve places to land at a new peak of No.29 with “Riptide”. Lorde jumps with her two chart entries, “The Love Club” EP is up twenty places to a new peak of No.32 and her new single “Tennis Court” is up fourteen places to No.35. Three dance tracks jump up back-to-back, with “La La La” for Naughty Boy and Sam Smith up thirty-two places to No.37, “Reload” for Sebastian Ingrosso, Tommy Trash and John Martin is up seven places to No.38 and Major Lazer takes his “Bubble Butt” up thirty-five places to crack the Top 40 at No.39.

DOWN DOWN: After debuting inside the Top 10 last week, the two Voice judges drop down into the Top 20 this week, with Ricky Martin’ “Come With Me” down eight places to No.11 and Delta Goodrem’s “Heart Hypnotic” down ten places to No.17. Also leaving the Top 10 are 2 Chainz and Wiz Khalifa with “We Own it” down seven places to No.15, and Harrison Craig’s version of “Unchained Melody” becomes his first Gold (●) selling track, but it drops forty-nine places to No.54 this week. Harrison does end up with four tracks in the Top 100 this week, with his highest being No.48’s “Unconditional”, as his album debuts at No.1 this week.

NEW #26 – True Love – Pink feat Lily Allen

Pink started her national tour this past week in Perth, and the fourth single from her “The Truth about Love” (TW-7) album debuts at No.26 featuring Lily Allen as guest vocalist. The song becomes Pink’s 32nd chart entry in Australia, with her 30th; “Just Give Me a Reason” (TW-34 and now 5x▲) and 31st “Guns and Roses” (TW-74) also currently charting.

NEW #44 – Do I Wanna Know? – The Arctic Monkeys

The Arctic Monkeys are set to release their fifth album “AM” in September, and the first single from the album “Do I Wanna Know?” debuts at No.44 this week, becoming their eighth Top 100 chart entry here in Australia. And by debuting within the Top 50 it instantly becomes their fourth Top 50 hit, as the band have not charted this high since their first three entries from 2006, the highest of which was their first single “I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor” (HP-18, Feb 2006).

Lower 50: Zedd featuring Foxes jump up twenty-four places to a new peak of No.51 with “Clarity”, with the John Newman dance track “Love Me Again” leaping twenty-six places to No.55. Selena Gomez is back up eight places to No.64 with “Come & Get it” (HP-63), whilst Kelly Clarkson turns around and moves back up fifteen places to No.69 with “People Likes us” (HP-46). The Wanted are back up twenty-one places to No.75 with “Walk like Rihanna” and “The Way” for Ariana Grande is back up thirteen places to No.80. Returning tracks to the Top 100 include “I Won’t Give Up” for Jason Mraz (as used in ‘Packed to the Rafters’ this week) at No.78, “On Top” and “Holdin’ On” on for Flume at No.86 and No.94 respectively, “Southern Sun” for Boy & Bear at No.91 and the “Into the Flame” EP for Matt Corby is back in at No.97.

Birds of Tokyo debut at No.53 with “When the Night Falls Quiet”, the third single from their first No.1 album “March Fires” (TW-60), whilst their former No.3 single “Lanterns” is almost steady at No.61 this week. Further local acts to debut this week include Illy at No.63 with “On & On” and RUFUS at No.67 with “Desert Night”. Bliss N’ Eso return to the Top 100 at No.87 with “Home is Where the Heart is” (HP-31), but they also debut with a new track “Reservoir Dogs” at No.96, both taken from their new album out this week “Circus in the Sky”. The Preatures debut at No.98 with “Is This How You Feel?” and sneaking in at No.100 is a collective of local and New Zealand artists who got together to raise funds for Child Abuse awareness. The ensemble is named Aotearoa Reggae All Stars and their song is called “Sensitive to a Smile”.

A couple of non-local entries come from Kanye West with “Black Skinhead” at No.58 taken from his current No.2 album (No.1 last week) “Yeezus”, and coming in at No.73 is GroupLove with “Ways to Go”, which becomes their second chart entry after their No.33 single from early 2012, “Tongue Tied” (peaked Feb 2012).
