Following an overnight storm that cooled down the city, an estimated 75,000 punters descended on Zilker Park for the third and final day of the first sold out weekend of Austin City Limits (ACL) Music Festival for 2013 in Austin, Texas.

Two artists shared the duty of closing out the festival. First was Thom Yorke from Radiohead and his side project Atoms for Peace, which also features Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers on bass; a band who were a part of ACL in 2012. The performance saw Flea entertain the crowd with his iconic high energy stage presence, while Thom Yorke danced up a frenzy. They performed a mix of tracks off of Thom Yorke’s solo record, the Atoms of Peace record Amok and a couple of surprises, such as the UNKLE track “Rabbit in Your Headlights”, which originally featured Yorke on vocals, and the obscure Radiohead B-Side “Paperbag Writer”, off the Com Lag: 2plus2isfive EP.

Meanwhile, Lionel Richie performed a crowd pleasing set that included all of his biggest hits, officially bringing the event to an end. Quite a few Commodores songs made an appearance, such as “Sweet Love”, “Lady (You Bring Me Up)” and “Brick House” and the night ended with “Hello”, “All Night Long” and the song he wrote with Michael Jackson, “We Are The World”.

Earlier in the day, Australia’s Tame Impala performed a much anticipated set to a rousing reception; the band are currently touring the US with The National and The Flaming Lips and will be returning to Australia to play Big Day Out in January. Two other BDO acts – Grouplove and Toro y Moi also graced the bill, as did Franz Ferdinand, who will return to Australia next month in lieu of their originally scheduled Harvest performances and Phoenix, who received one of the biggest receptions of the day, and will be next seen in Australia for the Future Music Festival.

Also appearing on the event’s last day were Phospherescent, Falls Festival attendees White Denim, The National, Neko Case, The Wild Feathers, Noah and the Whale, MS MR, Divine Fits and many, many more.

Austin City Limits repeats in the city next weekend with most of the lineup returning. This second weekend will be live streamed. Head to aclfestival.com for all the details, and stay tuned to Noise11 and the AU review for more news, reviews, interviews and photo galleries from the event!
