Ed Sheeran has now been atop the ARIA Singles Chart for twelve consecutive weeks with “Shape of You”, making it now the equal longest No.1 for this decade, and it is now 4x▲ Platinum in sales too.

“Shape of You” equals the twelve weeks achieved back in 2014 by Pharrell Williams’ “Happy”, but ‘Shape’ outdoes ‘Happy’ by staying at the top continuosly, as “Happy” had three runs at the top (5 wks, 1 off, 6 wks, 1 off and then one more week between 6th of January and 7th of April). The twelve weeks at the top also equals the other song for this century which had spent that long at the chart summit in Eminem with “Lose Yourself” (2002), whilst the only other twelve week running No.1 was 999 chart-toppers ago when “Buttons and Bows” by Dinah Shore (Jan 1949 to April 1949) racked up twelve weeks at No.1, making them all equal seventeenth on the list for ‘Most Weeks at No.1: 1940 to 2017’.

Ed Sheeran’s song is now one week shy of the longest No.1 for this decade and century, and also of equalling the longest No.1 of the 1990’s and 1960’s, plus two weeks away from the longest for the 1970’s.
With Ed now racking up an eighteenth accumulated week at No.1, he moves from equal 39th to now equal 35th on the list of ‘Accumualted Weeks at No.1: 1940 to 2017; Artists’ alongside The Rolling Stones (6 #1’s), Johnnie Ray (4 No.1’s) and Judy Garland (2 No.1’s). If he stays another week he will be equal with Katy Perry and LMFAO.

Landing a third non-consecutive week at No.2 are The Chainsmokers and Coldplay with “Something Just Like This”, whilst climbing up one place to new peak of No.3 are Zedd and Alessia Cara with “Stay”. This now equals his previous highest chart appearance, as guest on the Ariana Grande track “Break Free” (July 2014). Last weeks highest new entry for Drake and “Passionfruit” blasts up twelve places to No.4 this week, becoming his seventh Top 10 and fifth Top 5 single here in Australia and the first from his new set “More Life” (TW-9, US & Canada #1).

Landing his eighth Top 5 single in Australia and achieving Gold (●) in sales is Bruno Mars with “That’s What I Like”, which is up one place to a new peak of No.5 this week. Slipping three places to its lowest position so far is Ed Sheeran and “Castle on the Hill” to No.6, whilst his third Top 10 entry for the week is “Galway Girl”, which is down one to No.9. Stable at No.7 is Lorde and her “Green Light”, whilst also down three places to No.8 are Kygo and Selena Gomez with “It Ain’t Me” which is now ▲Platinum in sales, whilst Julia Michaels sees her “Issues” decrease one place to No.10 this week.
