The sixth studio album titled “Misery” for local Australian metalcore act The Amity Affliction becomes their fourth consecutive No.1 as it tops the ARIA Albums Chart this week.

“Misery” becomes the 834th No.1 Album in Australia (1965 to 2018) and the 685th for ARIA (1983 to 2018), plus the 476th to debut at No.1 (1976 to 2018) and also the seventh for their record label in ‘Roadrunner’ (4 for Amity, 2 for Slipknot and one for Nickelback).

On the listing for ‘Accumulated Weeks at No.1: Albums’ The Amity Affliction rises from equal 153rd to now equal 131st and on the same listing for this decade they rise from equal 19th to now equal 11th, and on both listings they are tied with Lana Del Rey who has also had four No.1 albums and spent four weeks at the top. I don’t think “Misery” can hold for another week as the new Troye Sivan album was just released, as well as a surprise Eminem album on Saturday morning.

This is the first time that the word ‘Misery’ has appeared in a No.1 album title, and this new chart topping albums becomes the 226th by an Australian act to hit the top here and the eighth this year (BTW the first and second ever Australian performed No.1 albums were at the top at this time in 1968 for The Seekers and 1971 for Daddy Cool). This new No.1 album also becomes the 372nd by a Group to hit the top (local or overseas) and the sixth for 2018, while The Amity Affliction are now the equal fifth act on the list for ‘Most No.1 Albums by an Aussie Act’ behind Jimmy Barnes (11 solo #1’s), John Farnham (10 #1’s), The Twelfth Man (7 #1’s), The Hilltop Hoods, Kasey Chambers, Kylie Minogue, Powderfinger, Olivia Newton-John, Silverchair and AC/DC (5 #1’s each) and tied with Amity are Cold Chisel, INXS, Midnight Oil, Human Nature, Delta Goodrem and the Hillsong Church with four No.1 albums apiece.

Last weeks No.1 debut for Ariana Grande and “Sweetener” is down one spot to No.2 here, while it holds for a second week at the summit in New Zealand and debuts at the top in both America and Canada, while moving back up is fellow label-mate Drake and his “Scorpion” set, up one to No.3, with last weeks No.2 entry for Human Nature and “Romance of the Jukebox” down two places to No.4.

After falling to his lowest position ever last week of No.7, the Ed Sheeran third album “÷ (Divide)” is back up two places to No.5, while also back up two spots is Post Malone with “Beerbongs & Bentleys” to No.6. There are two soundtracks within the Top 10 in the returning (4th wk) UK No.1 set “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” down two to No.7 and “The Greatest Showman” is back up one spot to No.8, it’s original entry position from the first week of the year, the set having spent all 38 weeks of its chart run within the Top 10 (so far).

Korean boy band BTS claim their third Top 10 albums chart entry this week as “Love Yourself: 結 Answer” debuts at No.9, the set a compile of their two previous albums plus seven new songs including this weeks new entry “Idol” (#35), with their two former Top 10 sets being “Love Yourself: Her” (HP-8, late Sept 2017) and “Love Yourself: Tear” (HP-6, late May 2018). Former No.1 entry “Astroworld” for Travis Scott is this week down four places to land at No.10.
