Beasts Of Bourbon To Reform For Brian Hooper Benefit

by Paul Cashmere on April 6, 2018

in News

Tex Perkins will reform Beasts of Bourbon for a benefit for former bass player Brian Hooper who has been diagnosed with lung cancer.

Hooper was a member of Beasts of Bourbon for the 1990-93, 96-97 and 03-08 eras of the band.

“Despite being told that he would never walk again, Brian determinedly rehabilitated himself to a point way past expectation,” Tex Perkins said in a statement. “His recovery was a true Phoenix rising from the ashes episode and was an inspiration to the rest of us beasts. Brian’s accident really showed what he was made of – true grit.

The show in Melbourne on April 13 will also feature Kim Salmon and the New Scientists, Adalita, Mick Harvey, Gareth Liddiard, and Rosie Westbrook.

“Cancer better watch out – Brian just might kick its fucking arse,” Tex said.

The show is being called ‘I Get Up Again’. Organiser and Beasts drummer Tony Pola said: “I Get Up Again will be a rare and unique show. As you’d expect from an artist of Brian’s pedigree, it will bring some of Australia’s most respected alternative rock, seminal punk and swamp blues artists together for what is shaping up to be an unmissable night.”

Tickets will go on sale on Friday 2 March, via the Prince Bandroom website princebandroom.com.au (Price $50 plus booking fee)

Punters who want to support Brian but can’t get to the benefit can donate via a GoFundMe.
