Bjork’s dream of porting her iPad app using the songs from her album Biophelia to other platforms has ended.

The singer opened a Kickstarter campaign looking to raise £375,000 ($590,000) in late January. On Thursday, she cancelled the campaign after only 263 backers were found contributing just £15,370 ($24,000), less than 5% of the goal.

The current app uses each song to explore different combinations of the two subjects, “exploring the areas where music, nature and technology meet, showing people how sound can work in nature while at the same time exploring the infinite expanse of the universe, from planetary systems to atomic structure.”

The goal of the campaign was to make the app accessible to more students by porting it to Android, Windows 8 and Mac platforms and creating an open source curriculum guide for classroom teachers.

The following was posted:

We’ve decided to stop the Kickstarter campaign. Seems like the costs were too gigantic and we too optimistic, so it seemed cleverest to pause it for now. Things seem to be changing fast; perhaps in a year, even months, there will be a far cheaper way to reprogram this. We are extremely grateful for the help we got, though, and want to extend a big thank you to all our contributors, great and small. You guys generously offered your own hard’earned money to something bigger than yourselves that you believe in, and we are deeply touched by your contributions. Once again, thank you. We are still looking at ways of making this happen so send your email address to [email protected] and we’ll keep you posted when there’s any new developments.
As with all Kickstarter campaigns, if the project is cancelled or the goal is not reached, all money is refunded to the backers.
