Bob Starkie of Skyhooks will join Jane Clifton (ex-Stilleto, Jo Jo Zep) for the launch of ‘(When The Sun Sets Over) Carlton, the new 2 disc compilation put together by David Laing of Warner Music.

Laing researched the inner-Melbourne music scene of the 70s and dug up lost treasures from acts like The Sports, The Dots, Daddy Cool as well as Starkie’s Skyhooks and Clifton’s Stiletto.

Rarities and unreleased material featured in the 45-track collection includes Daddy Cool covering Skyhooks in ’74, an unreleased Skyhooks demo featuring original singer Steve Hill, two unreleased studio recordings by Paul Kelly’s first band The High Rise Bombers and two rarely-heard tracks from the brilliant self-released 1979 EP by his next band The Dots, an unreleased Bleeding Hearts demo produced by Greg Macainsh, an unreleased early Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons demo from ’76, an unreleased pre-Sports demo by Stephen Cummings with Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band’s Dave Flett, and the first tracks ever released by both Wayne Burt’s pre-Falcons Band (with Pat Wilson) Rock Granite, and Glory Boys, a short-lived band featuring Nick Seymour on bass (whose track is a previously unreleased Paul Kelly song).

3RRR’s Jon Von Goes will host the launch at Jimmy Watson’s Winebar in Lygon Street at 6pm on November 11.

‘(When The Sun Sets Over) Carlton’ is out now through Warner Music.
