BREAKING: Jeff Hanneman Of Slayer Dies At Age 49

Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman has passed away at the age of 49.

An official statement from Slayer reads, “Slayer is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11AM this morning near his Southern California home. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed.

Jeff Hanneman was a founding member of Slayer with Kerry King. The band when the two met and discussed their mutual admiration of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. Slayer was born.

Hanneman was a key writer on every Slayer album contributing to songs like ‘Reign In Blood’ and ‘Angel of Death’.

Slayer released their first album ‘Show No Mercy’ in 1983. Hanneman wrote ‘The Antichrist’, ‘Die By The Sword’, ‘Fight Til Death’ and ‘Tormentor’ and co-wrote ‘Evil Has No Boundaries’ and ‘Chronics’ on the album.

On the last Slayer album ‘World Painted Blood’ (2009) he wrote ‘Unit 731’ and ‘Psychopathy Red’ and co-wrote ‘World Painted Blood’, ‘Beauty Through Order’, ‘Human Strain’ and ‘Playing With Dolls’.
