Bruce Springsteen Returns To Broadway

by Paul Cashmere on June 29, 2021

in News

Bruce Springsteen ended Broadway’s long Covid-19 shutdown on Saturday night by kicking off a 30-date run of his solo show at New York’s St. James Theatre.

Bruce’s sold-out residency, Springsteen on Broadway, which launched in October, 2017 at the Walter Kerr Theatre and initially ran until December, 2018.

Sprignsteen has now returned post-shutdown with an opening night benefit for a collection of New York and New Jersey causes, including Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids, the Food Bank for New York City, NJ Pandemic Relief Fund, and The Actors Fund.

“It’s great to be here,” Springsteen said as he took the stage. “No masks, sitting next to each other in one room.”

During the show, Bruce opened up for the first time about his DWI (driving while intoxicated) arrest in November.

Springsteen agreed to pay a fine in exchange for prosecutors dropping charges after he was observed taking two shots of tequila and riding his motorbike through a state park in his native New Jersey before being taken into custody.

“I was handcuffed and thrown in jail,” he told fans on Saturday night. “That took some doing… I didn’t wake up one morning, get on my motorcycle and say, ‘I’ll go to jail!'”

“My case was, ‘The United States vs. Bruce Springsteen’. That’s always comforting to hear – the entire nation is against you!”

James Taylor Farewells Australia With Final Tour (Melbourne Review)

I could go to a James Taylor show just for the stories. The man is a part of music history and is still around to tell the tales of how it all began. Like, for instance, being the first artist signed to Apple Records. James “auditioned” for Apple with his song ‘Something In The Way She Moves’. "Paul went away and started the label and George went away and wrote the song”, he said.
