Carly Rae Jepsen ‘Call Me Maybe’ and Adele ‘21’ are the biggest single and album of 2012 so far, according to ARIA.

Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘Call Me Maybe’ is ahead of songs by Flo Rida, Nicki Minaj, and fun.

Adele’s ‘21’, released in January, 2011, is beating 2012 releases by One Direction, Hilltop Hoods, Lana Del Rey and The Black Keys.

Australian artists have also had an impact in 2012 with Hilltop Hoods ‘Drinking From The Sun’ the no. 3 album, 360 ‘Falling & Flying’ at no. 7 and Keith Urban and Gotye in the top 20 at no’s 15 and 16.

Matt Corby has the biggest selling Australian song so far this year with the ‘Into The Flame’ EP featuring ‘Brother at no. 6. 360 featuring Gossling ‘Boys Like You’ is at no. 7 and Timomatic ‘Set It Off’ is at no. 14.

“ARIA is excited to publish a mid-year ARIA Chart for the very first time this weekend,” ARIA CEO Dan Rosen said in a statement. “We expect the Chart to spark debate amongst friends, encourage predictions for our End of Year Chart and give music fans a chance to reflect on a big six months of music”.

“It is also pleasing to see the large Aussie contingent who are making their presence felt on the ARIA Charts so far in 2012, with all signs pointing towards a huge year for Australian music and our local artists”.
