Carly Rae Jepsen Christmas Plans

Singer Carly Rae Jepsen doesn’t think it’s as “essential” to see everybody on Christmas Day now that she’s older.

Jepsen celebrated her 30th birthday in November (15) and has been busy preparing for the festive season as well. While many spend all day whizzing around to see the whole family on Christmas Day, Carly isn’t worried about cramming too much in. In fact, she’d rather dedicate a special separate day to her beau David Kalani Larkins.

“I have a boyfriend, yes, but we’re pretty new so I think that we both understand that we live at opposite ends – I’m from Canada, he’s from US – so I think we’ll kind of make our own Christmas,” she explained to the Toronto Sun when asked if she has anyone special this Yuletide. “To me, and it’s getting more this way, it wasn’t when I was younger, but it isn’t as essential that ‘the day of’ I have to see everybody. It’s more that around Christmas month I want significant quality time with all the people that I love.”

Carly was part of Christmas in Rockefeller Center this year alongside the likes of Mary J. Blige. It aired on NBC on 2 December (15) and countless clans around the nation tuned in to watch. Christmas was a special part of Carly’s childhood and she still holds fond memories, despite it not being the same anymore.

“I think for all families, it changes as the kids get older and they start to move to different places and I have an older brother, younger sister, and us all with our spouses or boyfriends or girlfriends, it’s all dividing out how you land?” she mused. “And our family is already divided so it’s just like getting to dad’s and mom’s, it’s complicated. But this year I’m lucking out because I think half my family is going to come visit me in LA for the first half and then I’m going to fly to Canada for the remaining four days right around actual Christmas.”
