Charles Jenkins has written 10 new songs to tell the story of the history of Melbourne.

The Melbourne based singer songwriter was approached by the Leaps and Bounds Festival to create a one night only event detailing the history of the city in song.

Jenkins gathered by a band he calls Charles Jenkins and the Amateur Historians. They include David Andrew Milne (The Zhivagos) and Douglas Lee Robertson (Ice Cream Hands). He then composed the 10 songs about the inner city region the City of Yarra.

Charles then went about researching the area, discovering stories of the men and women of the past, the grand houses of ill repute that entertain the area, the train stations, the good, the bad and the ugly of the city.

The show was been titled ‘The Past Is Never Where You Think You Left It’. A capacity of 80 tickets only will be sold for the event and all ticket holders will receive at special commemorative CD of the songs written for the show.

‘The Past Is Never Where You Think You Left It’ will be held on Thursday, July 10 at the Fitzroy Town Hall.
