Melbourne’s iconic Yah Yah’s music venue has been bought by Melbourne’s icon music venue Cherry Bar.

Cherry Bar co-owner James Young announced the done deal saying, “We heard there was real interest from some restaurateurs in buying Yah Yah’s. Not on my watch! Melbourne needs every live music venue it has. Let there be rock…”

Current owners Jon Perring and Andy Portokallis were looking for some like minded souls to take over the business when James Young and Pete Cherry popped up with a cheque book. They were “wrapt to sell to like minded people and keep Yah Yah’s in the rock n roll family,” James said.

Under the new ownership Yah Yah’s in Smith Street, Collingwood will stay Yah Yah’s and continue as one of Melbourne’s most respected late night music venues.

Young says Cherry Bar will take ownership of Yah Yah’s after a 60-day settlement period.
