Country singer Lynn Anderson was arrested on Thursday night in Nashville for DUI after being involved in a traffic accident.
According to reports, Anderson was in a traffic accident around 9 PM on West End Avenue in the city near 31st Avenue. When police questioned the singer, she admitted to having been drinking alcohol along with taking prescription drugs.
Anderson was taken to Metro Jail where she was processed and released around 5 AM on a $5,000 bail.
This is Anderson’s third DUI arrest. The first was on December 2, 2004 in Denton, TX and the second on May 3, 2006 in Espanola, NM, an incident that also followed a collision. She has, in the past, enrolled in the Betty Ford Clinic.
Anderson addressed the arrest on her Facebook page Friday morning:
I apologize for the choices I made and subsequent actions on Thursday evening that ultimately resulted in the accident. By the grace of God, I am very grateful that no one was injured as a result. I am committed to the accountable steps that I will be facing on the road to recovery and am deeply sorry for anyone that I have harmed along this path. – Lynn
Anderson had eighteen top ten Country hits between 1967 and 1983 including five number ones (Rose Garden, You’re My Man, How Can I Unlove You, Keep Me In Mind, What a Man My Man Is). She was the ACM Female Vocalist of the Year in 1967 and 1970, won the Grammy Award for Female Country Vocal Performance in 1971 and was named Country Artist of the Decade for the 70’s by both Billboard and Record World. Outside of music, she is also an equestrian champion with sixteen national and eight world championships to her name.
