The vinyl resurgence is in full swing and Britain’s Official Charts Company has released their list of the biggest selling vinyl singles and albums of the 2010’s, so far.

Even though it is still a small part of the music industry, sales of vinyl has been skyrocketing each year since the beginning of the decade and, although new music dominates the lists it’s two older works that top the singles list.

David Bowie’s 1971 song Life on Mars? leads the list, reissued for its 40th anniversary, followed by the Beatles’ Love Me Do from 1962, but the majority of the songs that come after were new at the time of their vinyl release. Of note is the fact that every one of those new recordings in the top ten, except for singles by Lady Gaga/Beyonce and the Arctic Monkeys, were by veteran acts who had been recording for twenty years or more (Beady Eye is Liam Gallagher’s band).

The top ten:
Life on Mars – David Bowie
Love Me Do – Beatles
Telephone – Lady Gaga Featuring Beyonce
No Tears to Cry / Wake Up the Nation – Paul Weller
Everyday is Like Sunday – Morrissey
The Roller – Beady Eye
In the Heat of the Moment – Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds
Millionaire – Beady Eye
Glamour Glue – Morrissey
Don’t Sit Down ‘Cause I’ve Moved Your Chair – Arctic Monkeys

Overall, Bowie has six of the top forty, Beady Eye five and Morrissey three.

On the Albums side, the Arctic Monkeys have the biggest seller along with number 9 but, again, outside of those two sets and one by Royal Blood, the entire top ten is veteran artists including two from Pink Floyd along with one by Radiohead, Daft Punk, the Stone Roses, Oasis and the Beatles.

AM – Arctic Monkeys
The King of Limbs – Radiohead
The Dark Side of the Moon – Pink Floyd
Random Access Memories – Daft Punk
The Endless River – Pink Floyd
Royal Blood – Royal Blood
The Stone Roses – Stone Roses
Definitely Maybe – Oasis
Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not – Arctic Monkeys
Abbey Road – Beatles

Led Zeppelin has four on the list, Radiohead has three while Arcade Fire, the Beatles, Oasis and The XX each have two.

To see the complete top forties in both formats, go to the Official Charts Company.
