David Bowie Nominated For Mercury Prize

David Bowie received a posthumous nomination for the Mercury Prize.

The shortlist has been announced for the annual award that recognizes the best album by a U.K. or Irish artist. According to the award’s website “The main objectives of the Mercury Prize are to provide a snapshot of the year in music, to encourage debate and discussion about music, and to help introduce new albums from a variety of musical genres to a wider audience.”

This is the first year that the general public will be allowed to select a final nominees from a list of twelve albums. The album that receives the highest number of votes will move to the jury round while the jury will add five more.

Bowie is nominated for his album Blackstar while Radiohead received their record fifth Mercury Prize nomination for A Moon Shaped Pool. They have never won the prize.
