David Cassidy is reportedly in a Florida hospital suffering from the failure of multiple organs. His representative has told the media that he is conscious and surrounded by family.

According to the New York Daily News, both his liver and his kidneys have failed and he needs transplants. The availability of compatible organs is not known and his rep told CNN “…nothing is imminent and we are taking it day by day”.

Not revealed was what caused the organ failure. Cassidy has had alcohol problems for quite some times and had built up a record of DUI arrests.

On February 20 of this year, he announced that he was suffering from dementia and was retiring from touring. Dementia is the same disease that took Malcolm Young of AC/DC earlier today.

Cassidy came to predominance in the cast of the TV hit The Partridge Family whose fictitious band had hits with songs like “I Think I Love You”, “Doesn’t Somebody Want to Be Wanted” and “I’ll Meet You Halfway”. He continued his singing career after the show went off the air with his biggest hit being a cover of the Association’s “Cherish” although he also topped the British charts with the Rascals’ “How Can I Be Sure” and the song “Daydreamer”.

James Taylor Farewells Australia With Final Tour (Melbourne Review)

I could go to a James Taylor show just for the stories. The man is a part of music history and is still around to tell the tales of how it all began. Like, for instance, being the first artist signed to Apple Records. James “auditioned” for Apple with his song ‘Something In The Way She Moves’. "Paul went away and started the label and George went away and wrote the song”, he said.
