Eddie Murphy Liked His Michael Jackson Duet Even If You Didn't

Eddie Murphy is proud he has footage of himself dancing in the clouds with Michael Jackson.

The 53-year-old actor is also a musician, with his latest offering a reggae single called Oh Jah Jah. It’s not his first foray into the charts, as he previously collaborated with the late Michael Jackson on 1993 R&B song Whatzupwitu. It was widely panned, but Eddie couldn’t care less.

“You know, I was dancing around in the clouds with Michael Jackson. However wack anyone thought Whatzupwitu was, there’s not a lot of people that have footage of themselves dancing around in the clouds with Michael Jackson,” he told British newspaper The Guardian. “I do have that forever.”

Eddie has a “shelf” of music which he hasn’t released yet and is excited to hear what people make of his new offerings. Don’t expect him to promote them on social media though, as he describes himself as a technophobe who only recently got a mobile phone.

He doesn’t have a computer either, and his Twitter account is handled by a member of his team.

In the past Eddie has admitted feeling wary of moving into music fully because of the way actors who do that are viewed. It’s still a concern for him, but he hopes his sound will transcend preconceived ideas.

“Because that’s what this looks like: being one of those actors trying to sing. I’m not an actor trying to sing, this is one of my passions,” he explained. “But if Don Johnson and Bruce Willis just put out albums, and then you put out an album, people don’t want to hear no sh*t about ‘it’s your passion’ [laughs]. But you might end up listening to it like, ‘Heyyy, this is isn’t just a bunch of actor-singing, and some of this stuff is actually kinda good.’ Music right now is mostly just dance music and love songs and ‘shake it’ and ‘party all night’. Nobody’s really saying anything like on Oh Jah Jah.”
