Following the release of his solo album, Marvelous Clouds, Aaron Freeman, best known to music fans as Gene Ween, half of genius freaks Ween, has said that the band is pretty much over.

He said to Rolling Stone, “It’s time to move on. I’m retiring Gene Ween.” When pressed if that means that Ween is finished, he confirmed “Pretty much, yeah. It’s been a long time, 25 years. It was a good run.”

Among the well-wishers and mourners posting on the Ween Facebook page was one Mickey Melchiondo, AKA Dean Ween, who wrote, “This is news to me, all I can say for now I guess”.

Ween lasted for 25 years, released eleven albums (most recently, 2007’s La Cucaracha) and played almost every style of music in existence, from metal to country to psych rock to power-pop to soul to smooth jazz.

Ween, we had the best time at your party. Thank you very much.
