The Glastonbury Festival has raised around $225,429 for refugees.

Motivated by the need to help refugees in desperate situations, the Glastonbury Festival team offered unique Glastonbury Festival and Worthy Farm experiences in an online auction to raise money for Oxfam’s Refugee Crisis Emergency Appeal. The appeal also included an online raffle.

Working with the Oxfam Shop on eBay, the grand total raised was £105, 674 ($AUD225,429).

Says Jack Lundy, Oxfam’s Director of Communications: “Thanks to Glastonbury and the generosity of the music-loving public, we have raised an incredible sum to kick start the Crisis Emergency Appeal. We are incredibly grateful to have such committed supporters, who, like us, refuse to live with poverty or suffering.”

There were TEN lots in the auction, including five pairs of Glastonbury 2016 tickets with incredible extras such as the chance to DJ at the festival, press the Arcadia Spider’s fire button from the DJ booth, watch a set from the side of the Pyramid Stage or introduce an act on the Cabaret Stage. In addition, entrants to the free online raffle for a pair of tickets were asked to make a suggested donation of £5 to further boost the appeal.
Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis said “The plight of refugees who have left their homes due to fear and aggression moved everyone in the Glastonbury Festival team and we needed to do something to help. We hope Oxfam, which has been a trusted partner of Glastonbury for many years, can deliver the support these people so desperately need.”

Oxfam is coming to the aid of refugees from many parts of the world. The charity’s Refugee Crisis Emergency Appeal is helping Syrian refugees in Lebanon and Jordan providing life saving water and sanitation. It’s also giving essential support to refugee families in Europe handing out food, clothes, shoes and personal hygiene kits.

Penny Lawrence Oxfam’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer says “We are so grateful to Glastonbury Festival for donating the items for this amazing auction. All the money raised will help refugees far from their homes who are enduring heartbreaking situations. Once again we are touched by Glastonbury’s generosity, kindness and support.”
