Dave Black, the guitarist for UK band Goldie, has died after being struck by a train in Cullercoats in the North East England on Saturday night.

Goldie had a no 7 hit in the UK in 1978 with the song ‘Making Up Again’. Black co-wrote the song with singer Pete McDonald.

Tributes for Black include words from Duran Duran’s Andy Taylor who credits Dave with helping him start out in the music industry. “I was having a lot of problems at school, and he was an incredible guitar player – he joined the Spiders From Mars when Mick Ronson left,” Taylor told the Chronicle.

“He was my neighbour, lived just across the road when we moved to St George’s Road near the train station.

“I knocked on his door one day, his brother Michael was a drummer, and I said I wanted to learn the stuff I didn’t know, some of the scales and the more complicated chords.”

Andy Taylor’s first eight music lessons were from Dave Black.

Police have no released any further details of the death of Black at this stage.
