Greta Bradman has scored the highest chart position for a classical album for 2015 with a number one debut on the classical chart and number 11 on the ARIA pop chart.

In a Facebook post Greta wrote, “Wow what a week! Official ARIA chart results are out.. My Hero debuted at no. 1 on the core classical chart, no.1 on classical/crossover chart, no.3 on Australian chart, and I can’t believe it but it’s also debuted at no.11 on the ARIA pop chart.

“I am elated it’s been so well received by those within and beyond the classical community. Thank you to each and every one of you who has purchased an album. If you’re enjoying it do feel free to tell your friends!”.

Soprano Greta Bradman is the granddaughter of cricket legend Sir Donald Bradman. Greta was signed to Universal imprint Decca Classical (Australia) for the album ‘My Hero’.

In recent weeks her story aired on The ABC’s ‘Australian Story’.

Greta has presented more than 1000 performances with orchestras including state symphony orchestras (Adelaide, Melbourne, Queensland, Western Australian, Sydney), the Australian Chamber Ensemble, Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, Australian Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, Wellington Symphony Orchestra, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Australian World Orchestra, opera companies ensembles and choirs.

‘My Hero’ is Greta’s operatic debut with an album of arias ranging from Handel to Verdi to be recorded in London this May with the fabled English Chamber Orchestra conducted by the great Richard Bonynge, who described her voice as representing the ‘true old-fashioned bel canto sound – the sort we only dream about today’.

‘I am immensely excited and humbled to be signing with Decca Classics,’ says Greta Bradman. ‘When I was six years old I wrote in “my autobiography” for school: “When I grow up I want to be an incredible singer”. By that, I meant a classical singer – like my idols, including the great Dame Joan. And the iconic “Decca” signature was synonymous with that, being attached to so very many of my favourite recordings. So I am beyond words to describe how much this means to me, to my family, and I really look forward to doing my best to honour the quality, passion and style that is part of the label and all that it stands for.’
