Guy Sebastian’s “Battle Scars” becomes his longest running No.1 single of his six chart-topping songs here by staying atop the ARIA Singles chart for a fourth week, plus it also picks up a double platinum certification in the process.

Gavin Ryan reports that Guy has now amassed thirteen weeks on top of the ARIA Singles Chart with those six No.1’s, matching the amount of time accumulated by Lionel Richie and Doris Day, and it now places Guy at No.53 (up from 60) on the list of ‘Most Accumulated Weeks at No.1: 1940 to 2012’. Also “Battle Scars” is now the fourth longest running No.1 of the year behind two Flo Rida tracks (“Whistle” at 8 weeks and “Wild Ones” at 6 weeks) and Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” (5 weeks). One last thing for Guy this week was that “Battle Scars” became his first US Billboard chart entry, coming in at No.73 {listed as Lupe Fiasco feat Guy Sebastian}.
Birdy stays perched at No.2 for a second week with “Skinny Love”, but loses her other Top 10 placing from last week, as “People Help the People” slips down five places to No.15, and she also loses her No.1 album placing from last week, dipping to No.2, so she holds the No.2 on both the singles and albums chart this week.
Flo Rida blasts into the chart with the highest new entry this week at No.3, “I Cry”. The song samples “Cry (Just a Little)” by Bingo Players (2011), which in turn featured a sample from “Piano in the Dark” by Brenda Russell (1988). It’s the sixth track to chart from his “Wild Ones” album (TW-28), and the fourth Top 4 song from the album, as “Good Feeling” (HP-4, Nov 2011), “Wild Ones” (HP-1, Jan/Feb 2012) and “Whistle” (HP-1, May/June 2012) were the previous three. Recently we had to No.44 peaking tracks from the album, both in July “In My Mind (Part 2)” and “Run”. “I Cry” took two weeks to go to No.1 in Norway, and has just debuted in the Top 20 in Ireland.
“Boom Boom” for Justice Crew has been dropping a place most weeks from No.1 (1-2-2-3-4) and this week is at No.4 in its ninth week in the Top 10. Taylor Swift is also down a place to No.5 with “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” (3-4-5 so far), but “Good Times” for Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen is at No.6 for a sixth non-consecutive week having been at No.5 for two weeks either side of their sixes (6-6-6-5-5-6-6-6), and that’s its entire Top 10 run and is most likely holding on due to the song now being used in the promo’s for the upcoming returning series of ‘Beauty & the Geek’.
“One More Night” for Maroon 5 is down two places to No.7 after its two weeks at No.2 in early August. The other previous song to chart in Australia with (just) the title “One More Night” was by Phil Collins, and it spent three weeks at No.2 in May 1985.
After two weeks at its debut of No.7, The Script and Will.i.am drop a place to No.8 with “Hall of Fame” ahead of The Scripts new album “#3” being released this week. Also down a place are Far East Movement to No.9 with “Turn Up the Love”, and returning to the Top 10 for a fifth week are Florence + the Machine with the “Spectrum (Say My Name) EP.
NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: “Mind Your Manners” for Chiddy Bang climbs three places to a new peak of No.11, one place lower than their previous best effort of a No.10 placing for “Opposite of Adults” (peaked June 2010). At the half-year mark on the charts (26 weeks), James Morrison’s “I Won’t Let You Go” climbs past it’s previous peak of No.14 (June 2012) to a new peak of No.13 this week, plus his album goes Top 10 for the first time, all helped by his upcoming end of the month tour.
Rita Ora’s second chart entry here “R.I.P.” feat Tinie Tempah is up six places to No.23 after debuting at No.29 last week. Taio Cruz leaps into the Top 30, up forty-four places to No.28 with his new track “Fast Car”, and Marina & The Diamonds climb six spots to No.30 with their “Primadonna” track.
Returning to the Top 50 and scoring a new peak of No.36 (up from No.53) is Cher Lloyd with “Want U Back” (previous peak was #47). “Heatwave” for Wiley is up three places to No.41, and Mumford & Sons move back up to No.37 with “I Will Wait” (HP-36).
DOWN DOWN: “Some Nights” for Fun. falls out of the Top 10 to No.14 after nine weeks, the same amount of time that “We Are Young” (TW-50) spent inside the ten. Birdy’s “People Help the People” was the other Top 10 deportee, but after last weeks blast up the charts to No.11, David Guetta and Sia’s “She Wolf (Falling to Pieces)” drops down five places to No.16 this week.
With a new Flo Rida track debuting high this week, his former No.1 “Whistle” drops six places to No.33, but the biggest falling tracks of the week are Delta Goodrem’s “Dancing With a Broken Heart” (33 to 63) and last weeks one-week-returnee “Mercy” by Duffy (47 to 98).
The other Top 50 entry of the week is the debut single for eight-piece British band Sam & the Womp, who enter at No.46 with “Bom Bom”. The track debuted at No.1 in the UK two weeks ago (No.2 this past week), and it’s currently sitting at No.6 in Ireland. The track mixes Balkan and Jamaican music together, and has been used internationally in a Southern Comfort advertising campaign.
Lower 50: Avicii’s “Levels” (HP-24) leaves the Top 100 after 41 weeks, but his new track “Silhouettes” (which has the weirdest video clip) jumps up eight places to a new peak of No.53. The only other peaking track in the lower fifty is Tyga with “Rack City” up one place to No.61.
“Somebody That I Used to Know” for Gotye jumps back up eighteen places to No.52, whilst The Rubens are back up eleven places to No.71 with “My Gun” (HP-70). David Guetta performed “Titanium” on the re-runs of Graham Norton last Sunday night, and that song jumps back up twenty-two places to No.77, whilst Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “Ni**as in Paris” (HP-71) is back up eleven places to No.79.
Returning tracks to the Top 100 this week include recent tourists The xx with “Angels” at No.59. Future tourist James Morrison’s first big hit “You Give Me Something” (HP-7, Nov 2006) returns to the Top 100 at No.62; Ed Sheeran’s “The A Team” (HP-2) is back in at No.78, and local act Loon Lake return at No.92 with “Cherry Lips” (HP-87).
The Iceland group Of Monsters and Men debut at No.66 with the four-track EP “Into the Woods”, which features their former homeland and Ireland No.1 single “Little Talks” and is their first chart entry here.
Keith Urban debuts at No.91 with the track “All for You”, his current U.S. single which is sitting at No.64 on the Billboard charts. And the last new entry of the week is at No.96, “I Love it” by Swedish duo Icona Pop. This is their debut single and “I Love it” has been sitting at No.2 for the past two weeks in their homeland, and is Top 15 in New Zealand at the moment. The duo can also be heard as guest vocalists on this week’s No.11 track “Mind Your Manners” for Chiddy Bang.
