Harry Styles paid a visit to Britain’s Houses of Parliament on Tuesday to watch a debate about the outcome of the referendum.
Styles, who is currently on an indefinite hiatus from One Direction, was invited to attend the House of Lords session by Professor Robert Winston, a peer for the Labour Party and the father of Harry’s friend Ben Winston, who has worked on One Direction projects.
Harry watched a parliamentary debate about the outcome of the ‘Brexit’, or Britain’s exit from the European Union (EU), from the public gallery, a Labour Lords spokesman told ITV News, who poked fun at the turmoil within British politics since the public voted for Leave on 23 June (16).
“My theory, however, is that he was in for the start of the two-day debate on Brexit and its consequences,” the spokesman joked. “He’s clearly heard that the Government has no direction.”
Baroness Angela Smith, Labour leader in the House of Lords, also revealed that the One Direction star had paid an unexpected visit to her office in Parliament with the Professor for a quick chat and her younger colleagues were very jealous.
“He was great, I have to say, a pretty impressive young man, very nice and I had a bit of a chat with him,” she told BBC Essex. “I’m a little bit older than most Harry Styles fans so the young women in my office are very cross and I don’t think they’re ever going to forgive me.”
“The joke is going around that we need One Direction here because we’ve got no direction on Brexit,” she laughed.
Harry’s visit comes just a week after The Matrix actor Keanu Reeves made a surprise appearance at Parliament to discuss expanding film production in the West Midlands of England. He posed for selfies with a number of starstruck British politicians during his tour of the building.
