Jackie Fox Claims She Was Raped By Kim Fowley

Jackie Fox, the original bassist for the Runaways, has opened up about her rape allegedly at the hands of Kim Fowley and other party goers after an early group show.

Fox joined the group in 1975, shortly before her sixteenth birthday, brought in by the group mentor Fowley. She played on their second album, Queens of Noise, along with Live in Japan; however, it was during that Japanese tour that she attempted suicide. She was quickly replaced by Vicki Blue.

It was at a party on New Year’s Eve after the band had played at Wild Man Sam’s in Orange County. According to Fox, a man, who she identified as a roadie, told her she needed to take pill that she later said were quaaludes. In a new interview with the Huffington Post, the pills knocked her out but, although may have appeared to be unconscious, she was, in fact, occasionally lucent enough to realize what was happening to her. Fox stated “I don’t know what it looked like from the outside. But I know what was going on inside and it was horror.”

Fowley first offered her to others at the party and, eventually, raped her himself. Fox says she saw both Joan Jett and Cherie Currie in the room although Jett claims she wasn’t there. Currie, though, says that she spoke up before leaving the room. Also there was Kari Krome, who had a similar incident with Fowley the year before when she was only 13.Fox never did anything about the attack and tried to push it from her mind until Currie wrote an autobiography, talking about the incident but saying the victim was a groupie. Krome also wrote a memoir and, while never mentioning Fox’s name, made it fairly clear that she was the victim.

Jackie tried to get a meeting with Fowley but he died last January before one could be arranged. Still, Fox started seeing women coming forward about rapes at the college level and by comedian Bill Cosby and she drew strength from these women, deciding to go public with her story.

Today, Fox (real name Jackie Fuchs) is an entertainment attorney.
