James Morrison Inducted Into Australian Jazz Hall Of Fame

Australian jazz legend James Morrison was inducted into the Jazz Hall of Fame at the Australian Jazz Bell Awards held in Melbourne on Thursday night.

James Morrison

Morrison is one of Australia’s most respected contemporary jazz musicians. He was the first Australian to perform with Dizzy Gillespie and played with Ray Charles and B.B. King. His international credits include work with Frank Sinatra, Cab Calloway and Wynton Marsalis.

Morrison was a one-time member the Don Burrows Band. He performed the opening fanfare at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and in 2009 was a presenter for Top Gear Australia.

Morrison was appointed the Artistic Director for the Queensland Music Festival for the 2013 and 2015 festivals.

Musical highlights for James Morrison include his albums ‘A Night In Tunisia (1984) and Postcards from Downunder (1988).

Other recipients of the Australian Jazz Hall of Fame include Brian Brown, Tony Gould, Bob Barnard, Mike Nock, Bernie McGann, Don Burrows, John Pochee, Allan Browne and Ade Monsbourgh.
