Janis Joplin Broadway Musical Cancelled

Janis Joplin ‘A Night With Janis Joplin’ has stopped before it even began.

The musical A Night With Janis Joplin had a very successful limited engagement on Broadway last year. Starring Mary Bridget Davies, the show featured many of Joplin’s now classic songs along with the music of many of her influences.

While a success on the Great White Way, it was not seen as the type of show that could have a long run in a big theater so the decision was made to move it off-broadway to the Gramercy where it was scheduled to open on April 10. According to a spokesman for the show, that opening has now been postponed indefinitely due to what is being called “production issues.”

A Night With Janis Joplin at Gramercy Theater will postpone its opening indefinitely due to production issues. Refunds will be available for all ticket holders at point of purchase. Further information will be released when available.

A Night With Janis Joplin was written and directed by Randy Johnson who first mounted a production in 2011 at Portland Center Stage. The show was produced in association with the estate of Joplin.
