Jarvis Cocker Writes Profane Protest Song

Notorious Pulp singer Jarvis Cocker has posted his first solo song on myspace entitled ‘Running The World.’

To be accurate, the chorus actually reminds us that “C**ts are still running the world” and the rest of the song is no less biting in responding to big business, governments and oligarchy. Cocker wrote on the www.myspace.com/jarvspace that the song was written on the night of Live8.

He questions the value of trying to engage with politicians and businesspeople, saying, “12 months on & the c**ts still haven’t paid up as far as I can make out”, although he stresses that it’s less of an attack on Geldof and co and more a comment on the evil overlords of the corporate world.

We’re obviously warning you about the profanity contained within the song (a c-word is just the beginning) and Cocker does note, “I apologise for all the swearing but sometimes that’s the only thing that seems appropriate.”

The grandiose piano-led ballad is Cocker’s first solo efforts since 2003’s Relaxed Muscle project and the first under his own name.
