Mojo Album of the Year award winner John Grant will return to Australia in January for the first time with a full band but so far only one date has been announced.

Grant won the Mojo for his 2010 solo debut ‘Queen of Denmark’. Sinead O’Connor covered the title track on her 2011 album ‘How About I Be Me (And You Be You). Grant said the album was written about his struggles with drugs and alcohol and his own coming to terms with being gay.

Before going solo John Grant was the lead singer of Denver band The Czars. They released six albums before breaking up in 2004. He now lives in Reykjavavik, Iceland. His most recent album ‘Pale Green Ghosts’ was recorded in the Scandinavian city with Birgir Þórarinsson, a.k.a. Biggi Veira of Iceland’s electronic pioneers Gus Gus.

Grant will perform with a five-piece band at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne on January 18. More Australian dates will be announced soon.
