John Mellencamp opened his tour in support of the new album Plain Spoken at the Morris Performing Arts Center in South Bend, IN on Wednesday night.

Mellencamp opened with two songs from the album and threw in one more later in the show. Two additional songs from his musical with T-Bone Burnett and Stephen King, Ghost Brothers of Darkland County, rounded out the only material from this decade in the program.

With four songs from Scarecrow, three from Lonesome Jubilee and two from Uh-Huh and one from American Fool, Mellencamp spent half the show showcasing music from his highly successful 80’s period.
