Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has made a video to support his run for candidacy in the upcoming Australian Federal Election.

Assange has announced he will run for the Australian Senate in Victoria. He can legally run for the Senate without physically being in the country. The criteria allowing an Australian to run for Senate is that “they must be at least 18 years of age, an Australian citizen and enrolled to vote at a House of Representatives election or be qualified to enroll”. Julian Assange satisfies all of these criteria and has now put his hand up for candidacy.

In the event that he wins and cannot leave the Ecuadorian embassy in London he can nominate a replacement.

The video, featuring Assange miming to the John Farnham classic ‘You’re The Voice’, was sung by Geisha’s Chris Doheny. It was created by Melbourne based Juice Rap News who filmed Assange at the embassy in London.

The Juice Rap News video has received mixed reaction ranging from very funny to offensive. The video, based on Game Of Thrones, features the Tony Abbott character promising to ban gays “even my sister” and has him referring to Julia Gillard as “freckle tits” while he recommends she does some ironing.

Labor is equally ridiculed with Ms Gillard and Mr Rudd both portrayed as backstabbers.
