Van Halen and Aerosmith may have been yesterday’s draw card for the Stone Music Festival in Sydney on Saturday but the highlight was Kings of Chaos.

Who, you ask?

Kings of Chaos is the supergroup featuring Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple), Steve Stevens (Billy Idol), Matt Sorum, Gilbey Clarke and Duff McKagan (Guns N Roses), Sebastian Bach (Skid Row) and Joe Elliott (Def Leppard).

Kings of Chaos were not just good, they were unbelievably brilliant.

A few weeks ago Axl Rose paraded his current version of Guns ‘N Roses around Australia. These guys did Guns N’ Roses so much better than Axl. No wonder, there are three times more early, classic era Guns N’ Roses members in Kings of Chaos than in Guns ‘N Roses now.

However, the Guns ‘N’ Roses songs were not the best part, the Deep Purple songs were. Glenn Hughes was a member of Deep Purple in the mid-70s. He played on ‘Burn’, ‘Stormbringer’ and ‘Come Taste The Band’. Kings of Chaos doing Purple’s ‘Burn’ at Stone Fest was unquestionably the greatest rock moment of the entire day. Hughes also performed a note perfect version of the Deep Purple ‘Highway Star’ Machine Head classic.

Sebastian Bach delivered the early Skid Row classic ‘Youth Gone Wild’ and sang on the Guns ‘N Roses songs. Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott performed Billy Idol’s ‘Rebel Yell’ with Steve Stevens from Billy Idol’s band and then there were the duets.

The setlist for Kings of Chaos at Stone Music Festival was:

Welcome To The Jungle (Guns ‘N Roses, vocals Sebastian Bach)
Youth Gone Wild (Skid Row, vocals Sebastian Bach)
Highway Star (Deep Purple, vocals Glenn Hughes)
Burn (Deep Purple, vocals Glenn Hughes)
Rebel Yell (Billy Idol, Joe Elliott vocals)
Pour Some Sugar On Me (Def Leppard, Joe Elliott, Glenn Hughes, Sebastian Bach vocals)
Paradise City (Guns ‘N Roses, Sebastian Bach and Glenn Hughes vocals)
