In what will be one of the most anticipated and emotional performances of the upcoming Libera Awards at the PlayStation Theater in New York (June 21), legendary funk and soul band The Dap-Kings will take the stage for a tribute to soul greats Sharon Jones and Charles Bradley, featuring members of their bands, the Dap-Kings and the Extraordinaires.

Their friend and fellow soul star Lee Fields will lead the band in his song “Wish You Were Here”. Sharon Jones died on November 18, 2016 at the age of 60. Charles Bradley passed away on September 23, 2017 at age 68.

The Libera Awards celebrate the range of the thriving indie world, which features diverse genres, labels big and small, and from around the globe. Created by and for the Independent label community, the Libera Awards – name adapted from the Latin word for freedom – is the capstone of A2IM’s Indie Week (June 18-21) in New York City.

This year’s A2IM Libera Awards will be hosted by NYC comedian, Kate Wolff. Performers at the Libera Awards include: Aimee Mann, the Funky 4 + 1, Sam Outlaw, and Raul Midon among others.
