Mac Davis will be the recipient of the 2015 BMI Icon Award at their annual Country Music Awards on Tuesday, November 3. The award is given to “songwriters who have had a unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers.”

Along with being a hitmaker on his own, Davis has written material for a variety of artists Elvis Presley (A Little Less Conversation, Memories, In the Ghetto, Don’t Cry Daddy, Clean Up Your Own Back Yard), Kenny Rogers (Something’s Burning), Bobby Goldsboro (Watching Scotty Grow), Glen Campbell (Everything a Man Could Ever Need), Ray Price (The Lonesomest Lonesome) and O.C. Smith (Friend, Lover, Woman, Wife).

Among his own hits that he penned are Baby Don’t Get Hooked on Me, I Believe in Music, One Hell of a Woman, Stop and Smell the Roses, Rock ‘n Roll (I Gave You All the Best Years of My Life), It’s Hard to Be Humble, Hooked on Music and Texas in My Rear View Mirror.

BMI Vice President Jody Williams said “We’re honored to celebrate the incredible career of Mac Davis. Artists ranging from Elvis to Avicii have recorded his songs. As an artist himself, Mac’s hits were embraced and loved internationally by both pop and country audiences. He hosted his own network TV variety show, appeared in many feature films, and even starred on Broadway, but Mac’s unique songwriting ability is what really sets him apart. In every way, Mac Davis is a BMI Icon.”

Along with songwriting and recording, Davis also worked as an actor in films like North Dallas Forty, Cheaper to Keep Her and Beer For My Horses.
