Fans, friends and family have gathered in Sydney for the funeral of AC/DC legend Malcolm Young, who died on 18 November, 2017.

After the news of Malcolm’s death politicians, sports stars and artists of all genres mourning via social media about the man who had such a huge influence on their lives. Malcolm, the co-founder, rhythm guitarist and songwriter for AC/DC, died after a battle with dementia.

The funeral of Malcolm Young took place at Sydney’s St Mary’s Cathedral. Malcolm’s brother and AC/DC co-founder Angus Young was there along with former AC/DC bass player Mark Evans and his replacement Cliff Williams, drummer Phil Rudd, AC/DC singer Brian Johnson, Jimmy Barnes, The Easybeats’ Harry Vanda, Angry Anderson and Albert Records head David Albert, who gave a eulogy at the funeral. A choir sang Amazing Grace, The Lord is My Shepherd and Jerusalem.

Industry identities including promoter Michael Chugg and Sony head Denis Handlin attended the service. Malcolm’s guitar “The Beast” rested above the coffin during the service.

Malcolm’s death came less than a month after his brother George Young (of The Easybeats, Flash & The Pan) lost his battle with lung cancer.

Malcolm Young was born in Glasgow in 6 January 1953. Before AC/DC the three brothers George, Angus and Malcolm as well as brother Alex and Harry Vanda (ex-The Easybeats) had a band called Marcus Hook Roll Band. They released one album ‘Tales of Old Grand Daddy’ in 1973. It stiffed.

After Angus and Malcolm formed AC/DC, parts of the hardly ever heard Marcus Hook Roll Band were used for AC/DC. ‘Natural Man’ evolved to become ‘Live Wire’ and ‘Quick Reaction’ had elements re-used for ‘TNT’.

Malcolm was with AC/DC from 1974 until he was diagnosed with dementia in 2014. At that point he permanently retired from the band.
