Devo frontman Mark Mothersbaugh has been selected by filmmaker Cameron Crowe to produce the score for his next movie.

Crowe is yet to announce the title of the film which is expected to be released in December. Crowe’s last movie was ‘We Bought A Zoo’ in 2011. Jonsi of Sigur Ros composed the ‘We Bought A Zoo’ soundtrack but Crowe usually hand places songs into this movies himself.

‘Elizabethtown’ featured music by Tom Petty, My Morning Jacket, Elton John and Ryan Adams. ‘Vanilla Sky’ featured REM, Paul McCartney, Radiohead and Peter Gabriel. ‘Almost Famous’ had the music of Paul Simon, Pete Townshend, Yes and Led Zeppelin.

Mothersbaugh is no stranger to soundtracks. He has written music for over 100 TV shows and movies including ’21 Jump Street’ and the upcoming sequel ’22 Jump Street’, The Lego Movie, The Royal Tenenbaums and Lords of Dogtown.

He told Film Music Reporter at the BMI Film & TV Awards in Beverly Hills this week that he is about one-third the way through the music for the new Crowe movie. He said the film is a comedy about a defence contractor and a pilot trying to stop the launch of a weapons satellite. The movie will star Alec Baldwin, Bill Murray, Rachel McAdams, Ivana Milicevic, Bradley Cooper and Emma Stone.

The movie had the initial title ‘Deep Tiki’ and is based on Crowe’s own screenplay.

It is scheduled to premiere on December 25, 2014.
