David Bowie’s sci-fi alter ego Ziggy Stardust is being made into a Barbie.

Mattel has announced production is underway of a new Barbie based on Bowie.

The Ziggy Stardust Bowie will be dressed with the iconic metallic ‘space suit’ with red and blue stripes and flared shoulders, and Bowie’s signature cherry-red platform boots.

Each doll will come with a Certificate of Authenticity.

The Bowie Barbie will retail for $US50 (about $AUD70).

Orders are now being taken.
