Midnight Oil treated Canberra to a complete performance of the iconic ‘Diesel and Dust’ album last night (27 May 2019).

While the band played every song from the album, including the bonus track ‘Gunbarrell Highway’, they took some liberties with the track order, swapping around ‘Whoah’ and ‘The Dead Heart’. Side one of the original vinyl album was performed in order but ‘Gunbarrell Highway’ also slide in between ‘Sell My Soul’ and ‘Sometimes’.

The complete album performance was ‘Diesel and Dust’ was the first time Midnight Oil have performed their biggest album in its entirety.

‘Diesel and Dust’ was awarded 7x Platinum in Australia, 3x Platinum in Canada and sold platinum in the USA with over 1 million sales.

Midnight Oil performed in Wollongong last week and Canberra last night as a warm-up to their upcoming European tour.

The Damned released the first ever UK punk single, “New Rose” off album Damned, Damned, Damned, in 1976, and were often overshadowed by their English punk counterparts. Now in their late sixties and still touring world-wide, featuring the original line up of Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible, Rat Scabies and Paul Gray, they are the ones having the last laugh and have left their old rivals for dead, in certain respects, quite literally!
