Midweek Chart Report: RÜFÜS Target No 1

Sydney indie-dance trio RÜFÜS look set to take the No.1 albums spot this week with their debut album “Atlas”, a brilliant sounding mix between Coldplay, Cut N’ Copy and The Presets (in my opinion).

There is a the potential for the twenty-four year old compilation for Fleetwood Mac, “The Very Best of” (HP-3, Jan/Feb 1989) to zoom up from last weeks No.66 and into the Top 10 to join their current set “25 Years – The Chain”, all due to their pending national tour and last weekend appearance on ‘Sunday Night’ on Channel 7. Their could also be a Top 10 debut for Dead Letter Circus and their second album “The Catalyst Fire”.

There are potential Top 20 debuts for Cloud Control and their second album “Dream Cave”, with Bastille also jumping up into the Top 20 with their slow climbing “Bad Blood” set (TW-41). Further entries could come from Mark Wilkinson with “Let the River Run”, Asking Alexandria and “From Death to Destiny”, the “Teen Beach Movie” soundtrack from Disney, and lower down their is the potential for the self-titled album by Brooke Hyland to enter.

SINGLES:
With an onslaught of top-shelf performers releasing new material this week, it’s a three way race for the No.1 spot in the country this coming weekend. At the moment (and this could all change) Katy Perry and her new track “Roar” looks set to become her third No.1 in Australia, but right behind her is Jason DeRulo with his high rotation track “Talk Dirty” featuring 2 Chainz, along with the rush released “Applause” by Lady GaGa rounding out the top three, whilst Avicii with “Wake Me Up” could also be within that top three.

This influx of new songs means that last weeks high placed tracks look set to fall back a bit for now, with Lorde, Karmin, OneRepublic and Naughty Boy all being relegated to the lower Top 10, whilst Flo Rida and Pitbull look set to jump up into the Top 10 with their new track “Can’t Believe it”. Losing their Top 10 placing could be MKTO, Vance Joy and Miley Cyrus whilst Zedd might fall back from their No.11 peak with “Clarity”. Lana Del Rey debuted at 62 last week with the remix of “Summertime Sadness”, which this week looks set for a Top 20 birth, and also a possible top twenty placing could come from Rihanna’s new track “What Now” (TW-37).

“We Own the Night” by The Wanted could land within the high thirty this week, as too could “Tennis Court” by Lorde (TW-32), and helped by their pending tour here (this coming weekend) Bastille could see their second Top 40 hit as “Laura Palmer” (TW-57) looks set to jump up. Also their could be X-Factor and Australia’s Got Talent re-entries for “Running Up That Hill” (XF) by Kate Bush, “Shooting Stars” (AGT) by Bag Raiders, the Uncle Jed rendition of “Brother” (AGT) by Matt Corby and “Human Nature” for Michael Jackson (XF).

With the recent Kings of Leon track “Supersoaker” only charting for a couple of weeks, there is now a new song with chart potential in “Wait for Me” which could debut within the Top 60, and we could see Adele enter with “One and Only” after an X-Factor performance, whilst HAIM are back with “The Wire” which has a similar beat to The Eagles song “Heartache Tonight”.

Further entries could come from Panic! At the Disco and “This is Gospel”, The Arctic Monkeys with “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?” and also Drake with “Hold On, We’re Going Home”, Bonnie McKee with “American Girl”, Finatticz and the weirdly named “Don’t Drop That Thun Thun”, with a possible entry for the new Paolo Nutini track “Last Request”.
