Following the international love for his Guns Babes Lemonade album of 2007, Muscles has spent time sneaking out singles, working on his second record Manhood, and remixing.

One of those was a remix of Kylie Minogue’s ‘Put Your Hands Up (If You Feel Love)’, which appeared on the Les Folies Tour Edition of Aphrodite.

“I remixed Kylie Minogue,” he says, almost surprised, when asked about it. “I just got an email and they said ‘Do you wanna do a remix?’ They didn’t say who it was and I was like ‘Yeah, sure’.” Once they specified that it was Australia’s Princess of Pop, he said, “Hell, yeah! I’d love to do that!”

He says he’s a quick remixer. “The Kylie remix I did in a day and a half. I sent it back and they’re like ‘We love it, it’s great, we’re gonna really push for it to be on the physical release’ It wasn’t meant to be on the physical release but because I did it so quick they did that.”

Muscles had previously posted online that he suspected Kylie’s ‘WOW’ was indebted to one of his earlier tunes. He reconsiders it now, “People come up to me and say it, and then I don’t know whether I should believe it or so. I mean, there’s a lot of songs that sound the same. Even there was a recent Madonna song ‘Girls Gone Wild’ where I thought ‘Girl Crazy Go’, maybe… there’s a bit of a connection there? Maybe not.”

Doing a remix of an Angry Boys song actually led him to want to produce music for Australian hip-hop. “I’m a big fan of what’s going on,” he says. He’s into what local producers and MCs are putting out. “I dunno, I gotta finds someone who’s a little bit off-centre, because I’ve got a lot of beats that maybe wouldn’t work for Muscles but might work for different artists. So we’ll see where the future takes us.”

Take note, brave Australian MCs. Check out the whole chat below.
