Foo Fighters, Rolling Stones, Motley Crue Up For Pollstar Awards

The nominations for the 27th annual Pollstar Awards have been announced with Foo Fighters, U2 and the Grateful Dead all up in the two major categories.

All three artists have been nominated for Major Tour of the Year and Most Creative Stage Production. They will compete with the Rolling Stones and Taylor Swift for the Major Tour statue and Swift and Motley Crue for Stage Production.

Pollstar, the site that tracks the touring comings and goings of all levels of artists around the world, gives out awards in thirty categories; however, only four involve actual artists with the other two being Comedy Tour of the Year and Best New Touring Artist.

It is a bit surprising that the Grateful Dead were able to get nominations based on the fact that their “tour” consisted of only two cities, Santa Clara, CA for two shows and Chicago, IL for three shows. What is undeniable is that those five shows grossed some of the biggest numbers of the year, no matter the length of any of the tours.

Along with venues, executive, talent buyers, booking agents and other behind the scenes workers and companies, the awards also singles out festivals in three categories.

For the Major Music Festival of the Year, the nominees are Bonnaroo, Coachella, the Hangout Music & Beach Festival, Lollapalooza and the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival while in the category of Music Festival of the Year includes the Newport Folk Festival, the Pitchfork Music Festival, the Toronto Urban Roots Festival and the Treasure Island Festival.

For International Music Festival, the nominees are Bluesfest (Australia), Download (U.K.), Glastonbury (U.K.), Primavera Sound (Spain), Rock am Ring (Germany) and Roskilde (Denmark).

The winners will be announced on February 12.

Foo Fighters Honor Taylor Hawkins and Introduce Josh Freese To Melbourne #REVIEW

Dave Grohl said he had lost count of the number of times Foo Fighters have toured Australia “10, 20, 100”. The answer is actually 13. Foo Fighters first toured Australia on the Summersault Festival in 1995. They were back in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2008, 2011, 2015, 2018 and for that one-off show in Geelong in 2022. The early tours were mainly club shows. The biggest they got in those first 10 years (outside festivals) was a Festival Hall show in Melbourne. The first arena show was in 2005 and for the past 10 years it has been stadiums.
