Music Works Grants Announced For Victoria

Courtney Barnett’s Milk Records, Henry Wagons and Beaches are just some of the recipients of the first Music Works grants from the Victorian Government.

Milk Records will receive $15000 for an Australian tour of its artists including Courtney Barnett, Jen Cloher and Fraser A Gorman, Henry Wagons has been granted $17,263 for an international tour and Beaches will receive $10,000 to go towards a new double album ‘Double Good’.

Gorman will also receive $12,860 to record his second album.

The Music Works program is an initiative of the Andrews Labor Government to help nurture and grow contemporary music created in Victoria nationally and globally.

A USA tour by Gold Class which will incorporate showcases and participation in professional development forums at the prestigious music event South By Southwest in Austin, Texas

Adam Gorton CARLTON NORTH $12,050
The marketing and promotion of Peep Tempel’s third album in North America and Europe

Adrian Rafter – Milwaukee Banks FITZROY $6,250
A national tour in November to support the release of Milwaukee Banks’ debut album

Art of Fighting FITZROY NORTH $13,900
The recording of a new album with an accompanying marketing campaign and national tour

Association of Artists Managers (AAM) NEWTOWN $7,985
A program of intensive skills development workshops for Victorian artist managers

Bad Apples Music Pty Ltd RESERVOIR $8,000
A skills development program by Bad Apples Music, a new Indigenous owned and run record label founded by hip hop artist Briggs that will nurture, develop and provide opportunities for emerging and established Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists

Beaches COBURG $10,000
The recording of a new double album ‘Double Good’

Bendigo Blues and Roots Music Festival inc. KENNINGTON $15,000
The presentation of the 2016 Bendigo Blues and Roots Music Festival, a four day program of performances and workshops throughout Bendigo and surrounding towns

A pilot program to establish a high quality recording studio, with experienced musicians and an engineer, which will assist artists on minimal budgets to create new work

A collaboration between local musicians and artists to create an album that tells the stories of the characters and history of Port Fairy. The album will also feature a book of the lyrics with an accompanying piece of artwork by a local artist
