The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame held their induction ceremony on Friday night at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn.

Joining the ranks of the Hall were Deep Purple, Steve Miller, N.W.A., Chicago and Cheap Trick along with songwriter Bert Burns.

The evening, in general, went off without a hitch and on-time.

Controversy was kept to a minimum (well, at least, on stage) with the exception of Ice Cube who, during his acceptance speech for N.W.A., responded to a criticism by Gene Simmons that the group does not belong in the Rock Hall. “Now, the question is, are we rock & roll? And I say you goddamn right we rock & roll. Rock ‘n’ roll is not an instrument. It’s not even a style of music. It’s a spirit that’s been going on since the blues, jazz, bebop, soul, rock ‘n’ roll, R&B, heavy metal, punk rock, and yes, hip-hop. Rock ‘n’ roll is not conforming to the people who came before you, but creating your own path in music and life. That is rock ‘n’ roll and that is us. So rock & roll is not conforming. Rock & roll is outside the box. And rock & roll is N.W.A.”
