The Rolling Stones are under 24-hour armed guard after a worker at one of their shows in Argentina was shot dead, according to a report.

Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, and Charlie Watts are being escorted around Buenos Aires with military-style security after 55-year-old contractor Pedro Luis Tabares was killed in a botched robbery after the gig at the La Plata stadium on Thursday (February 11), editors at the U.K.’s Daily Mirror newspaper claim.

Tabares was leaving with his colleagues after the concert and was shot dead as a gang tried to ambush them in an effort to steal the stadium’s drinks takings. A 31-year-old Colombian man, named locally as John Alexander Bobadilla Vega, was later arrested.

The veteran rockers, who are playing across South America on their America Latina Ole tour, are now allegedly taking no chances with their safety and are travelling in separate cars with armed guards surrounding their hotel.

The band performed their final show at the La Plata stadium on Saturday night (13Feb16), before travelling to Brazil, Uruguay, Peru and Colombia.

A source told the newspaper, “Wealthy personalities are always potential targets, but the band are kept safe and secure at all times by the best security personnel on the planet.”

The rockers have yet to comment on the report of the contractor’s death, but did thank their Argentinean fans on Twitter.com after they played their final gig in the country. Alongside a photo of the setlist, they wrote, “Muchas gracias Argentina! #StonesArgentina”.
