Yesterday, the Tragically Hip announced that their lead singer, Gordon Downie, was suffering from terminal brain cancer.
Today, they made good on yesterday’s statement:
So after 30-some years together as The Tragically Hip, thousands of shows, and hundreds of tours…
We’ve decided to do another one.
This feels like the right thing to do now, for Gord, and for all of us.
The band will play eleven shows across Canada beginning on July 22 in Victoria, BC and running through August 20 in Kingston, ON, playing music from their new album Man Machine Poem (out June 17) along with songs from throughout their career.
Tickets go on sales on June 3 at 10 AM local time. A portion of the proceeds from the tour will be donated to Toronto’s Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center to support research, education and equipment.
