Neal Schon and Jan Hammer’s two collaborative albums from the 80s are now available as downloads for the first time.

‘Untold Passion’ (1981) and ‘Here To Stay’ (1982) have gone on sale on sale via iTunes, Amazon and other digital retailers. The albums feature two never before released songs ‘Planet Empathy’ and ‘Weekend Heaven’ added to the release. Both songs were recorded at the time of the original albums but ‘Planet Empathy’ was only recently completed for the reissue.

‘Untold Passion’ came as Schon was finishing up work with Santana and before his work with Journey. ‘Here To Stay’ features Steve Perry on vocals on the song ‘Self Defence’. Glen Burtnik, who would later replace Tommy Shaw in Styx, made one of his first recorded appearances on this album.

‘No More Lies’ from ‘Here To Stay’ was a minor hit in the USA.

Schon later went on to multi-platinum success with Journey and was also part of the 80s supergroup Bad English with John Waite from The Babys.

Jan Hammer went into soundtracks and is now the recipient of several Grammy Awards. He composed the theme for Miami Vice which earned him Grammys for Best Pop Instrumental Performance and Best Instrumental Composition.

He also earned Emmy Awards for Outstanding Achievement In Musical Composition.

In 1989 he recorded the song ‘Too Much Too Lose’ with a band featuring Jeff Beck, David Gilmour and Ringo Starr.

In 2010, Hammer collaborated with Junkie XL on the Fairlight EP and performed on the track ‘Made For Each Other’.

In 2014 Journey will tour the USA with the Steve Miller Band.
